Good times were had by KMA staff at an impromptu happy hour at Cellar Dog jazz bar. Jim Karmolinski demonstrated his winning technique at shuffleboard as Jillian Berry looked on. Also enjoying the music, atmosphere, and beverages were Bradford Hathaway, R.A., Dori Bova, AIA, Joshua Thomas, Kelsey Whalen, Abigail Freed, Bob Smith, and KC Johnson. #happyhour #camaraderie #team

There's SO much to be excited about: The Eagles won the Super Bowl AND KMA is working on some cool projects! Currently in the schematic design phase, NAML, Inc.'s The Mill is envisioned as a six-story, 150,000-square-foot mixed-use building proposed to occupy a 1.08-acre site at 4624 Lancaster Avenue in West Philadelphia's Mill Creek neighborhood. Bitter cold temperatures didn't phase the construction crew hard at work today on Cheyney University of Pennsylvania's historic Browne Hall on the campus quadrangle. The rehabilitation project addresses exterior deterioration and will reconfigure the existing floor plan to provide ADA accessible open and private office spaces for university employees. KMA is leading the project, which is near the $45 million residence hall we completed in 2012 with RMJM. The GC is Donald E. Reisinger, Inc. and MBE firm Torrado Construction Company Inc. has the concrete contract. #historicpreservation #architecture #renovation #rehabilitation #university #campus

The Solstice Story, with holiday cheer from the KMA Team: The winter solstice, occurring on December 21 in the Northern Hemisphere, marks the transition from fall to winter with the shortest day and longest night of the year. On this day, the Earth’s tilt places the North Pole at its maximum distance from the sun. The word "solstice" derives from the Latin words sol (sun) and sistere (to stand still). The winter solstice symbolizes renewal, ritual, and the celebration of the sun's "return." Traditions surrounding the solstice often include feasting and gift-giving, and these ancient customs have deeply influenced modern holidays like Christmas and Hanukkah. At KMA, celebrating the winter solstice is a cherished tradition that originated with our co-founders, Emanuel Kelly and Vincent Maiello. This enduring custom reflects our profound gratitude for the time we shared together. Our celebration this year is on display on LinkedIn. To view the video, click https://lnkd.in/gd54QGFU

A group of us enjoyed a field trip to Kingsessing Recreation Center on Monday. The tour was led by KMA's project manager Dori Bova, AIA. Not only was it fun to get out of the office on a clear fall day, it was an excellent learning opportunity for the younger architects on our team to visit an active construction site. Currently about 60% complete, the $24.35 million project is through Rebuild PHL. Substantial completion is anticipated in mid-May 2025, and the center will be open in time for the summer pool season. KMA is the architect of record, and are supported by Pennoni for MEP/FP and structural engineering; SALT DESIGN STUDIO for landscape architecture; and Arora Engineers for security and telecom. Clemens Construction Company is the GC, and Smith Construction is the exterior contractor.
