Biography
Dr. Doris Wright Carroll is Associate Professor within the College of Education at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas, where she teaches and conducts applied research in counseling, student affairs practice and academic advising, with emphasis in diversity and equity, multicultural counseling, distance education and curriculum development.
Dr. Carroll holds a BS in Psychology and MS in Education from Kansas State University and, in 1982, was awarded a PhD. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. She is a National Certified Counselor [NCC].
Dr. Carroll is a well-respected multicultural educator with more than 30 years of clinical practice, teaching, and professional service at four major research universities. Dr. Carroll has delivered national and international papers and presentations related to distance education, college student retention, multicultural competency and jazz education. In November 2013, Dr. Carroll was awarded the Cultural Competency award from the Kansas City Chapter of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, or NAMI-KC, for her cultural competency workshops with Kansas City area arts organizations. Dr. Carroll has served as a volunteer for the Youth Symphony of Kansas City (YSKC) and with Jazz Alive. Earlier in 2015, she served as a co-chair for the American Jazz Museum Jazz Society and was table captain for their fundraising event that same year. Dr. Carroll remains passionate and committed to enhancing jazz for area youth across the community. She looks forward to finding new community resources to support jazz education and performance across the entire Kansas City metropolitan area.
