https://lnkd.in/ddrsCPVN Perhaps revisiting the call to disconnect all critical infrastructure, business, and government systems from the Internet may finally gain traction with ML generated threats. Interestingly, what these models are doing is making it easier to uncover the vulnerabilities and exploits that always existed. Existing generative ML output is derived from existing information whose outputs are the result of human training. Inevitably these exploits would have occurred but the pace has picked up as a result of ML. Arguably there is no assured way to protect ones data or information/operations technology if you are connected to the Internet and thus the only way is to disconnect. There should also be different security domains that separate business, government, and critical infrastructure networks with heavily monitored guards between them similar to US DoD networks. If access to the inherently unsecure internet is needed it should be through virtual machine sessions that are sandboxed off from the aforementioned security domains. A phase 2 would require establishment of a new protocol and hardware to complicate intercommunication, expertise, and familiarity in an attempt to blunt ML generative exploits. A phase 3 should entail the establishment of a national JRSS on the Internet that requires all gateways to institute a JRSS with not only deep packet inspection and a ML correlation analysis capability but a digital passport system akin to what we do at our sovereign physical borders. Just as proliferation of svg images in use on websites takes off so is its appeal to malicious actors who use them in phishing emails. The exploits hides itself in a form of steganography where by java script or other malicious code is hidden in the svg code. IdM, DRM, and a digital ICE are required...those who operate anonymously or operate with fake ID creds should be dealt with similarly to those that commit the same in the physical world. We need to protect our digital borders and know who is coming in and leaving. For those that say the Internet cannot be reigned in, begin the shift from it. The lawlessness must stop if we are really serious about cybersecurity. What do you think?
