A place where passionate people come to live a life inspired.

About us

Established in 1894 as a political group Jonathan Club segued into a purely social club shortly after. The Club originally afforded an outlet through which members hosted political candidates, participated in political rallies and gathered for social activities. In 1895, Jonathan Club members determined that the social bond, and not the political one, was what interconnected its members. Jonathan Club was chartered as a “purely social club” by the State of California on September 23, 1895. Many notable Club members (also known as Jonathans) have shaped the destiny of Southern California. Their leadership and innovations reverberate to today. Henry Edward Huntington, a notable Jonathan whose imprint on commutes and socio-economic plans dating back to the early 1900s continues to influence all of us to this day. Jonathans Edward Dickson and Ernest Moore conceived the idea of UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) over lunch in the fall of 1917. Never underestimate the power of lunch at the Club! As Jonathan Club has evolved the defining values, standards of excellence and spirit of camaraderie that originally distinguished the Club have withstood the test of time.

Celebrating a Century of Legacy A century ago, the Jonathan Club laid the cornerstone of it's Town Club—marking the beginning of a space that would bring people together, foster connections, and stand the test of time. 100 years later, that foundation still holds strong. The club has grown, evolved, and adapted while staying true to what matters most: community. As we reflect on this milestone, we recognize the generations who shaped its story and the members who continue to bring it to life every day. Here’s to the next century of connection, tradition, and new possibilities. 🥂 #JonathanClub #100Years #LookingForward #PrivateClubNews

Last month, the Jonathan Club Horological Society (JCHS) welcomed actor and passionate watch collector Fred Savage for an exclusive one-on-one interview. Fred shared his journey into the world of watches—how he first fell in love with timepieces, the personal meaning they hold for him, and his philosophy on collecting. But the conversation didn’t stop there. Fred also introduced us to his latest venture, Timepiece Grading Specialists (TGS). TGS is an independent service that offers expert watch grading, providing collectors with impartial, detailed evaluations. Their team of master watchmakers examines each watch carefully, giving it a comprehensive score based on condition, authenticity, and craftsmanship. With different service levels depending on the watch’s value, TGS aims to set a new standard for transparency in the industry. For collectors, knowing a watch’s true condition is just as important as knowing its history. Fred’s passion for horology shines through in this new endeavor, helping buyers and sellers make informed decisions with confidence. It was a fascinating discussion, and we’re grateful to Fred for sharing his time and expertise. I'm looking forward to seeing how TGS shapes the future of watch collecting! JCHS members, send me a message to receive a very special offer from TGS. #TimepieceGrading #JonathanClub #FredSavage

100 Years Ago Today – February 26, 1925: In a grand celebration of over 600 members and guests, Jonathan Club laid the cornerstone of the Town Club on 6th and Figueroa Streets, marking the start of our flagship location in Downtown Los Angeles. At first glance, the cornerstone may seem like just another architectural detail, but sealed inside was a time capsule holding 23 treasures, including a silent film of the building’s groundbreaking and the Club’s first roster from 1896—a century of history, secured in stone. #JTC100 Pictured: 1. Club President W.P. Jeffries uses a trowel to cement the cornerstone. 2. Thomas Haverty seals the time capsule. 3. The cornestone today on Figueroa Street.

  • We are still in disbelief at the devastation our city has endured. With our two locations standing on either side of the hardest-hit areas, we have witnessed the impact firsthand. In the face of this tragedy, we did what we have always done—opened our doors, extended our hands, and supported our community. Providing temporary housing for those displaced and feeding our first responders was not a decision, but a responsibility—one rooted in the values we hold as Jonathans. And yet, the work is far from over. Jonathan Club remains committed to staying engaged and being a source of support. Having witnessed Los Angeles from its earliest days, we have no doubt that through resilience and collective effort, our city will rise again—stronger than ever #LAstrong
