🫶 Community isn't about buildings, it's about bonds. Prisma families connecting in-person across time zones is the proof! From NYC trips to watch a peer perform on stage, to our weeklong Ocean Endeavor where learners surfed in between workshops, this is what a virtual school with real friendships looks like.

Prisma learners can take elective courses from all kinds of cool partners this session—from Collaboration Laboratory to Coco Coders, Outschool, DMforAdventure, and 4th Wall Theatre!
We know that we can’t change education alone, which is why we’ve partnered 🤝 with some wonderful organizations to help enact change. This February we’re running an exclusive minicamp with Prisma (“the school of Hard Fun”) to showcase how immersive games and escape rooms can be used to learn life skills! Prisma designer Gabe describes how our team uses expert guests to enhance and extend our project-based curriculum! Thanks, Gina Manola, for speaking to middle schoolers about game design and entrepreneurship. 🎲 🚀
Working for a fully online school like Prisma, we are always thinking about ways to make personal connections. Since we can't just bump into each other in the hallway, we have to be intentional in bringing together staff with learners, learners with one another, and our school community as a whole. One way that we connect our learners with people in the world beyond school is through an ongoing speaker series. For each of our 6-week thematic units, we invite a guest who can show us what the skills and content that we are exploring look like in the professional sphere. Sometimes, our guests are people within my network or the contact of a colleague. Other times, I don't know anyone personally. In those cases, I turn to LinkedIn. Over the years that I have been coordinating our guest speaker program, I have been repeatedly surprised by the graciousness and generosity of strangers who I contact out of the blue! Recently, we really hit the jackpot with Gina Manola. As our younger learners are currently designing games and our older learners are seeing what it takes to be an entrepreneur, Gina was able to provide insights about both. As a game inventor and business owner (not to mention artist and screenwriter, among other talents), Gina was able to speak to the kids about what it takes to bring an idea from a sketch to reality, whether for a game like #FeedTheWoozle, the logo for a company, or your very own business. As much as I valued the knowledge and experiences that Gina was able to connect with our specific units, I was even more glad that our learners were able to hear about her career path overall. By remaining open to options and being a lifelong learner, Gina has gone on an incredible journey, adding to her "toolkit" of skills all along the way. As someone with a similarly zig-zagging professional life, I have found that my career path has never looked like a map stretching into the future. Rather, my career path has only really revealed itself as I have looked back and connected the dots between all of my various roles. I think all young people would benefit from examples like Gina's: you don't have to have your career planned out in high school or college... or even after. By remaining open to opportunities, and being willing to take chances, you can find yourself going places that you never imagined!

✨ Celebrating the brilliant Prisma learners who rocked the Bebras Challenge - the world's largest computer science competition! Beyond our two learners who scored in the 100th percentile (🤯) many more scored 80-90th percentile and above. 🥳 Bebras Challenge Leader, Coach Camil, shares: 'I ran this competition at my previous school, and I had never seen these numbers. It's impressive.' 💪 Computational thinking is about more than learning to code; it's about developing cognitive skills that support real-world, complex problem solving. Congrats to these learners for showing the world what Prisma is all about! International Bebras Community #education #computationalthinking #stem #innovation

💪“I learned that I can do hard things and get out of my comfort zone.” 🥧"It was probably the best thing I have done all summer...I made new friends, sang, danced a lot, and made great memories. I also got pied in the face!" 💞“I learned I’m not as introverted as I thought I was.” The Prisma Parent Community just pulled off their biggest event ever: a week at Club Getaway in Connecticut. Thanks to parent planners and staff volunteers, more than 50 learners gathered for five jam-packed days of outdoor adventure, games, a formal dance, and even a film festival...all while attending Prisma virtually! 🎧💻 Special shoutout to Coach James for creating epic activities to build learners' independence, teamwork, growth, tenacity, and connection. 🧳With more meetups being planned all over (next up... 🏄♂️ San Diego Ocean & Surf Camp in January), we can't wait to see where Prisma families take in-person experiences in the future.
