Amid a surge in market volatility, Co-Chief Investment Strategist Matthew Miskin, CFA, shares our weekly #MarketIntelligence and explores the latest economic data. Learn more here: https://bit.ly/42INLNV #MarketOutlook #Economy #Volatility
Global #economic data was holding up well in March before tariffs and government job losses. The U.S. jobs report beat, initial jobless claims fell to 219k, and the global PMIs ticked higher. Markets are seeing a completely different macro regime post tariffs and have corrected significantly. The S&P 500 drawdown is now -17% as of Friday's close. U.S. high yield spreads have widened to 4.27%. In our view, equity/credit markets are now a lot cheaper, but not yet cheap. We continue to prefer high quality #income for the time being, but looking for cross-asset opportunities as valuations get more attractive. This week we have #CPI, PPI, NFIB, and we start Q1 earnings season. Manulife Investment Management John Hancock Investment Management

Updating the market outlook, economy, and more: Co-Chief Investment Strategist Matthew Miskin, CFA, shares our weekly #MarketIntelligence. Learn more here: https://bit.ly/41V0Ap7 #MarketOutlook #Economy
Another big week for macro coming up with a U.S. #jobs report, China PMIs, U.S. JOLTs/ISM, and potentially other fiscal developments. A lot of cross currents recently, but overall, the bond market has priced in a third rate cut over 2025 as equities have struggled. U.S. initial jobless claims remained well anchored at 224k, but #inflation was hotter than expected with the #PCE report. Eurozone data is still holding up ok, but started to miss estimates from the PMIs to other sentiment surveys. As for our investment theme, it is on finding ways to prune #portfolio #risk by reviewing the merits of moving some equities to the high yield/credit markets. #Income is likely to be a bigger portfolio return driver as multiple expansion and earnings growth become harder to come by from #stocks.
