Manufacturing/Supply Chain Change Manager, CPIM Certification

Folks, I just want to share this for those engaging in change management. I acquired the role as Director of Manufacturing. My tenure has been about five months. I have a team that shows promise but raw. There is work to be done. Immediately, I began talking to my personnel about accountability, speaking up, trusting your skills, thinking automously, being a team, getting better everyday, and using me as a resource to get there. I deliver that message with training in many different methods all the time. In general I felt, little by little, the message was starting to resonate. Some days are better than others and today I was doubting my soft skills getting that message across. Down? Sure... But I always come back for more. While making my rounds, a difficult employee walk up to me. He has the reputation of never being happy and complains often. I prepared myself to raise my doubt level on the soft skills. Here we go. He said, "Steve , I want to let you know that since you have been here I see change for the better. You hold them to their jobs (accountability) and that means a lot. Please don't leave us. You're needed here." I was stunned... I thanked him and we chatted how to improve upon his department. A great conversation was had. I gain a valuable ally and lost a detractor. He has no idea what he did for me that day. No more self-doubts for that day! I celebrated the win.
