TL;DR 🚗 Rental Cars: In most cases, your personal car insurance covers rental cars, but the amount of coverage it provides will depend on the type of insurance you have. Full coverage provides the best protection. 🚘 Stolen Vehicles: You must buy full coverage car insurance for theft protection. Liability alone won’t cut it. Jerry is celebrating #CarInsuranceDay by sharing key 2025 industry insights for the year ahead, straight from our 2025 State of the American Driver Report. The report highlights evolving consumer behaviors, emerging risks, and what drivers can expect in the coming year. 💡Did you know? 8 in 10 American drivers believe car insurance has become unaffordable for the average person. We also found that: - Over 22% drivers switched insurers for lower rates, 27% opted for a higher deductible to lower premiums, 26% bought less coverage, and 63% purchased less than they thought they needed. - Nearly 1 in 10 (9.7%) drivers went uninsured at some point in the past year due to the burden of rising premiums. - Nearly a quarter (24%) of respondents with a monthly car payment spent more than 20% of their household’s take-home pay on car payments in 2023, while nearly two thirds (63%) spent more than 10%. - 71% consider car insurance costs when initially choosing what car to buy, including 85% of Gen Z, 75% of Millenials, 69% of Gen X and 67% of Boomers. - More than half (58%) of American drivers cut spending in other areas—such as restaurant meals, clothing and groceries—because of the high cost of owning a car. That included 80% of Gen Z and 69% of Millennials. Our Vice President of Insurance Operations Joshua Damico shares predictions (and good news) for insurance shoppers this year: “This year is poised to be a year of stabilization for car insurance rates. While small rate increases of 2-3% are expected as the market returns to normal, this is a welcome shift after the 50% rise in rates over the last three years.
