  • We’re excited to welcome Grace Ann Roberts as the Director of Strategy. In just a few short months, Grace Ann’s creative spirit and imagination have charmed our clients and Ivy Groupies alike, making her the perfect addition to our growing team! Here’s a little more about Grace Ann: 🟣𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗷𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗼𝗳 #𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆? My background is in producing and programming. As a producer I work with creative teams to foster a dynamic, creative vision – and then build the plan to execute that vision. While it’s not a perfect 1-to-1, my strategy experience has felt similar. After years in the producing role, I was ready to put my experience to use in a new arena and luckily found creative strategy. 🟣𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲? I had a former mentor who taught me the phrase “Hold on tightly, let go lightly.” It’s become a mantra for me. I’m a diligent researcher who loves a plan, but I also pride myself on the ability to read the room, take in new information, and flex quickly when needed. Being ready to react to changes in real-time and build a new approach has always come in handy for me. 🟣𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗜𝘃𝘆 𝘀𝗼 𝗳𝗮𝗿? The lovely team! Most every day you can count on sharing lunch around the conference room table, which is so enjoyable. Between our most tenured staff to new team members, we have an amazing team with diverse skillsets, go-getter attitudes, and good senses of humor. 🟣𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗜𝘃𝘆 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂? When I’m not at work, I’m usually spending time on the tennis court, doing home DIY projects, reading a new biography, or working on a few producing side projects that keep my creative juices flowing. I also serve on Virginia Humanities’ Emerging Humanities Leaders Council, which is a great way to stay connected to my passion for the arts and humanities and support the rich cultural landscape here in the Commonwealth. • We’re happy to be hokey and round out our core values with kindness! The Ivy Group was founded by passionate women uninterested in the exclusionary and hyper-competitive boys’ club found in the Mad Men days. Our women-led team continues the founding vision by fostering a welcoming atmosphere focused on constructive collaboration. While our work is fast-paced, the Ivy team still finds moments for shared snacks, doorway chats, and meetings full of laughter. Whether you’re an employee or a client, at Ivy you will find a seat at the table surrounded by people ready to listen and help. We want to celebrate your successes, support your passions, and be there for your struggles. We think being kind is good business. But more importantly, it’s just the right way to be. #CoreValues #WorkplaceValues #CompanyCulture #ItsWhoWeAre

Managing Director at The Ivy Group, Ltd.

This year, I celebrated my tenth anniversary at The Ivy Group, Ltd. As I reflect on my decade at the agency, my overwhelming feeling is gratitude. I’m thankful for the opportunity to progress from a bright-eyed recent grad into the leader of Charlottesville’s premier communications agency. I arrived at Ivy eager to learn everything I could and jumped on any project that would have me. These days, as Managing Director, my ears are still open and my hands are still on every project. I adore being surrounded by a team that overflows with talent, laughter, and good ideas. This agency is about people, and our Groupies past and present are what make it so special. I appreciate each and every one of the 114 clients I’ve worked with during my time at Ivy. I’m especially thankful for those who have been with me since the beginning and allowed me to grow alongside them: Chiles Family Orchards, Branchlands Senior Living, and the Central Virginia Partnership for Economic Development. I am awed by the diversity and richness of the communities that I’ve traveled to across America. Ivy’s strategic planning projects with public libraries have brought me from Tiburon, California, to Portland, Maine, and Odessa, Texas, to Northville, Michigan. I’ve visited Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Hancock County, Mississippi; Fayetteville, Arkansas; Topeka, Kansas; and so many other towns and cities throughout this country. Thank you to all our library clients for sharing your stories—and your tastiest foods—with me. I admire Ivy’s co-founders, Nancy Davis and Pam Fitzgerald, for taking a risk on an untested new grad and then trusting me with their legacy. I’m grateful to my mother, Denise B. Prince, for taking ownership of a business during a pandemic (who does that?) and advancing our vision for Ivy 2.0 with her invaluable support, savvy, and optimism. Together, we’ve doubled our business. I’m beyond pleased that at 35 years young, Ivy Group’s future has never looked brighter. Here’s to many more years of innovation, teamwork, and helping communities thrive! • Ever feel like no one has an attention span anymore? It’s so easy to blame modern media for content difficulties: people swiping on their phones, flipping through things with barely a glance, never looking at anything longer than a few seconds! But what I’ve noticed is that even with the rise of TikTok and other bitesize formats, there’s also been increasing interest year-over-year in podcasts, video essays, TV show binges, and other longform pieces of content. 38% of U.S. adults listened to audiobooks in 2023, with an average of 6.8 titles per person. Heck, even TikTok’s maximum video length has increased over time, from three to 10 to 60 minutes. Rest assured, audiences are as hungry as ever to attentively consume big, complex pieces of media! The difference now is that people have limitless choice and unprecedented power over when—or if—they pay attention to your messaging. These days, you can’t count on a captive audience. The upside is that an engaged audience will always be more likely to convert than a passive one. We can make a far stronger impression on someone with media that gives them value, even if it’s more work for us as marketers. Because regardless of your content’s length, people are paying more attention now than ever before. - Alex Griffith, Content Manager and Copywriter #AudienceEngagement #LongformContent #ContentMarketing #MediaTrends
