🌟 Congrats to the Cahoon Mansion team on their well-deserved Rehabilitation & Restoration Award! Our recent design work for Townsend-Cahoon Plaza brought us next door to the mansion, and gave us the privilege of a front-row seat to the conclusion of this rehabilitation & restoration process. So wonderful to have this victorian jewel preserved for generations to come!

🎨 Exciting news for Art City! The City of Springville has received a $49,000 T-Mobile Hometown Grant for downtown art revitalization. This grant will fund the first phase of implementation of the Art Loops master plan, which we worked with the city on alongside Jake McIntire at Union Creative Agency. 💡 Love these reflections on the architectural reconstruction of the historic Victorian style bandstand at Fort Douglas! The Fort Douglas and Stilwell Fields site has a long and fascinating history, some of which was captured in the HALS short form study and Section 106 report we completed. Have you visited Fort Douglas?
Originally constructed in the 1870’s, the Victorian style bandstand at Fort Douglas was rebuilt leading up to the 2002 Winter Olympics. This central feature of the fort hosted military and local bands and served as a gathering place for the community. The structure was rebuilt using historic photos and plans to guide the process and modern construction methods as needed. Sometimes though, the intersection of historic plans and modern methods can present us with unexpected challenges as happened here when caulking was used to fill in gaps in the decorative railing. #UtahSHPO, #UtahHistory, #HistoricPreservation, #HistoricBuilding, #FortDouglas

🏆 We're thrilled to share that Susan Crook, Io LandArch's co-founder, has received an "Industry Expert" award in the Architecture Category for the 2025 Preservation Utah Community Stewardship Awards. As a pioneer in historic landscape architecture and a trailblazer for women in the field, Susan has broadened perspectives and raised awareness about the importance of historic landscape architecture, and has been a consistent force for change in a profession that has historically overlooked the significance of historic landscapes. Susan's expertise is evident in her work on numerous significant sites across Utah and her legacy in historic preservation is profound. As a result of her efforts, communities have benefited from increased awareness of their shared history, educational opportunities, and improved cultural tourism, and numerous site's stories have been documented. We are so grateful for her contributions to preserving Utah’s historic landscapes, including cemeteries, residential areas, and city landmarks! #preservationutah #communitystewardship #historiclandscapes #awards
