Last night, Instawork's Andie (Andreina) Morales was on Univision’s national PrimeTime broadcast to discuss how new tariffs are already reshaping labor strategies across the warehousing and logistics industries. With thousands of shifts booked on Instawork every day, we have a unique window into how businesses are reacting in real time. What we’re seeing: - Warehouses are front-loading inventory and staffing—raising pay in March to secure labor before trade disruptions escalate. - Early April data shows a slowdown, as businesses wait to see how tariffs will affect demand, costs, and consumer behavior. - Labor agility is becoming a competitive edge, and flexible staffing models are helping companies adapt quickly to economic uncertainty. Grateful to Univision for bringing attention to how these policy changes ripple through frontline workforces. And proud of our team for continuing to deliver data-backed insights when they matter most. 📺 Watch the segment: https://bit.ly/423ohM4 #Instawork #Univision #JobsReport #Warehousing #Tariffs #LaborTrends #Logistics #FutureOfWork #liberationday

BLS dropped a big number today: 228,000 jobs added in March — nearly double February’s total — with healthcare, retail, transportation, and warehousing driving the gains. It’s a robust signal of economic resilience, but the backdrop is anything but simple. At Instawork, our real-time data tells a deeper story: * Warehouse and logistics wages spiked 2% last month as retailers and 3PLs stockpiled inventory ahead of the new U.S. tariffs that hit this week. * Hospitality hiring ticked up, but wages softened across most roles, a hint that consumer spending might be tightening. * Our Pros saw flexible work opportunities shrink outside our platform, while full-time roles edged up, suggesting workers are recalibrating for stability in an uncertain market. For now, wage growth is propping up consumer demand. But with tariffs now in force, hiking costs on everything from cosmetics to wine, businesses and workers alike are bracing for what’s next. Our March data shows hourly pay in logistics-intensive regions outpacing the national average, a clear sign of tariff-driven pressure rippling through supply chains. The takeaway? Adaptability is the name of the game. Dive into our full March labor insights: https://lnkd.in/gHGZ87T3

With new announced U.S. tariffs, our real-time data Instawork shows retailers and 3PLs scrambling to adapt. Our platform metrics reveal that some warehouses and ports are already hovering at 90-95% capacity as businesses front-load inventory to dodge rising costs. I spoke to a couple of CEOs of large retailers and 3PLs this morning who echoed similar sentiments. We’re also tracking unprecedented demand spikes for distribution and logistics workers, up sharply in just the past few weeks. This isn’t just a blip; it’s the opening salvo of a massive effort to keep goods flowing to shelves and doorsteps. The pressure on supply chains is real, and it’s testing infrastructure and workforce limits like never before. The winners in this tariff-driven shakeup? Companies that pivot fast, prioritizing flexibility, resilience, and smart workforce strategies over brute-force staffing. Buckle up!

With the rush to load containers before April tariffs take effect, warehouses will soon face a concentrated influx of goods. Having seen similar patterns before, here are practical staffing approaches that can help operations navigate this challenge: Cross-train your core team - Empower existing staff to flex between receiving, putaway, and picking functions as volume demands shift. This builds resilience while developing valuable skills. Stagger shift schedules - Consider temporarily adjusting start times to extend daily operating hours without requiring overtime. This spreads the workload while maintaining productivity. Build a reliable backup bench - Develop relationships with proven temporary workers before you need them. Having pre-vetted people who already know your facility creates smoother transitions when volume spikes. The warehouses that handle this surge most effectively will be those thinking beyond just headcount to focus on capability, scheduling, and readiness. #warehousing #logistics #tariffs #retailoperations #flexiblework #supplychain #futureofwork What strategies have worked in your operation during previous volume surges?
