👏 INCITE Project came to an end on 31 December 2023! 🤝 From September 2019 to December 2023, the 7 European partners worked together to foster competitivness for sustainable European chemical industry. 🎯 The objective was to demonstrate novel integrated upstream and downstream processing paths involving flow chemistry and membrane technology in chemo-enzymatic processes. These processes enable production efficiency and have positive outcomes on the environmental impact (up to 40% less CO2 emissions, reduction of energy consumption,…). 🏭 The experiments were successfully conducted in an agrochemical track with our partner Endura SpA and in an oleochem track with our coordinator Oleon. ▶️ Watch our final video 👉 https://lnkd.in/eU7aTDXN #INCITE #Project #Europe #Success #Chemistry #Technology #Sustainable Processes4Planet Partnership A.SPIRE SusChem ETP BiCT srl - Biological and Chemical Technologies Fraunhofer IMM Universiteit Gent Bioeconomy For Change VITO Yamini Satyawali Pieter Nachtergaele Stijn Vandenbroucke Roberto Verga Francesco Tozzi Dries Gabriëls Jan Mertens Rune Daneels Heleen De Wever Elise Meerburg Césaire Régis ESSIS Yann Raoul
About us
Due to the increasing concern on climate change and environmental issues, the focus of manufacturing industries has been gradually shifting towards the development of alternative greener, safer and sustainable processes. Views and opinions expressed are however those of the authors only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European. In that context, INCITE aims to prove that, at an industrial scale, chemo-enzymatic processes have clear environmental gains, are cost-effective and can contribute to increase safety in the work environment. The project will base its demonstration on two chemo-enzymatic processes one being the esterase-catalyzed of an important precursor in the production of insecticides, and the other being the solvent-free synthesis of oleochemical esters using lipase enzymes. INCITE brings together 8 European partners, coordinated by OLEON N.V. (Belgium) Duration: 48 months (September 2019 - August 2023) | Total budget: € 17.4 M INCITE has received € 13.3 M funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme on the Topic CE-SPIRE-04-2019 - Efficient integrated downstream processes (Grant Agreement number 870023). 📗 Published! – Proud of our new publication in Royal Society of Chemistry Green Chemistry, the final result of a four year endeavor in the INCITE Project on using #enzymes for improving the #sustainability of #chemicals production, and specifically Isopropyl Palmitate (IPP). What did we learn? ⏳ Using a streamlined LCSA methodology with a common goal and scope definition and life cycle inventory reduced the overall time for data collection & interpretation. For our case, switching to enzymatic catalysis for IPP production... 📉 reduced the environmental impacts due to a triple benefit: less hazardous waste, higher yield, and lower steam consumption. 📊 increased social risks due to longer production times. However, many social benefits such as improved safety are not properly captured by the database. 📈 increased operational cost due to enzyme cost and higher labour cost. A big thank you to my co-authors Ozan Kocak, Dries Gabriëls, Yblin Roman Escobar, Jordy Motte, Léopold MOTTET and Jo Dewulf, and to Oleon, all INCITE Project partners and the European Commission for funding (Horizon 2020 grant agreement no.870023).
