Inside the Inland Empire Job Market: April 2025 Analysis The Inland Empire’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate saw a slight dip to 5.3%, and the labor force grew by 16,000 people. However, job losses outpaced gains across most sectors, with Transportation & Warehousing again hit hardest. Despite regional job losses, sectors like Health Care and Social Assistance and Government continue to add jobs, hinting at a potential shift in where opportunities are growing. Matthew Mena, IEGO's Executive Director, was recently interviewed on KVCR's Economics IE segment to discuss this release of regional labor market information and its impact on the local economy. Inclusive Economic Development for ALL Riverside and San Bernardino County residents
About us
IEGO is a regional, multi-sector approach to Economic Development. We are a network of over 50 organizations serving the two-county Inland Empire region with a focus on existing and emerging clusters in Future Sustainable Logistics, Advanced Manufacturing, Cybersecurity/IT and Green Technology. We do Economic Development differently by centering our collective energy on triple bottom line strategies that foster sustainability, innovation and equity. Our impact is measured in improvements to workforce development, entrepreneurship, business development, quality of life, place, poverty reduction and advances in wealth development, diversity and inclusion. IEGO believes a Cluster-Based approach to inclusive economic development is the fastest road to advance opportunity for residents and business in the Inland Empire. Brookings defines “industry clusters” as “groups of firms that gain a competitive advantage through local proximity and interdependence.” A cluster-based approach—to create a geographic concentration of related companies and other organizations in a field—is distinct from sector development, which targets the growth of just one existing industry. As Brookings has observed in other regions, developing an industry cluster generates greater productivity and innovation, higher wages and more entrepreneurial activity than developing a single industry sector.

IEGO was honored to participate in the inaugural #IELegislatorsRoundtable. As our region continues to grow, collaboration across local, state, and federal levels is more critical than ever to ensure the Inland Empire’s economic momentum translates into real, lasting opportunity for our communities. The recognition of the Thrive Inland SoCal Regional initiative as a federally approved CEDS is a game-changer, unlocking new resources and reinforcing the power of unified regional planning. We’re proud to be involved in driving data-informed, inclusive strategies to strengthen our economic resilience and advance quality job creation across the Inland Empire. Thank you to our legislative partners and to the Governor’s Office for their continued leadership in supporting regions like ours. Let’s keep building together! #IEGO #ThriveInlandSoCal #CAJobsFirst #InlandEmpire
#IECF was proud to host the inaugural Inland Empire Legislators Roundtable 🏛️, an interactive gathering established to provide a platform for strategic communication, relationship building, and collaboration among our state and federal district offices. As one of the largest and fastest growing regions in California, it's important that we work alongside our elected leadership in a commitment to build a stronger, more resilient Inland Empire. 🤝🏼 This quarterly convening is more than just a briefing to our delegation. It's a platform for partnership as we work to align around the challenges and opportunities of the Inland Empire. 🌄 🙌🏼We appreciate the SEVENTEEN federal and state offices that joined us with a shared goal of securing good jobs and long-term investment for our region. 💼💰 Over lunch, our bipartisan delegation heard from Inland SoCal THRIVE leadership, who are advancing bold, data-driven 📊 solutions grounded in strong coalitions and a clear economic and workforce strategy. 🗣️The meeting was keynoted by the Governor’s Senior Advisor for Economic Policy, Derek Kirk, M.A., who has been a lead architect in the development of the California Jobs First Economic Blueprint. Built from the foundation of thirteen regional plans, including Inland SoCal THRIVE, this blueprint identifies the strategic sectors and strategies that best position California to help create, attract and increase access to good paying jobs. Kirk underscored the importance of regional planning and shared the Governor’s big news: All 13 California Jobs First regional plans, including the Inland SoCal Thrive Plan, have been recognized as Comprehensive Economic Development Strategies (CEDS) by the U.S. Economic Development Administration. ❗This means every city and county in California now has a federally recognized economic strategy, unlocking new avenues to advance and invest in dynamic sectors across the state including manufacturing and cybersecurity. ⭐ 👏🏻“The CEDS certification of the Thrive Inland SoCal Regional initiative highlights the ongoing Importance of regional economic development. This announcement means that Inland Southern California now has an additional tool in our toolbox, bringing us one step closer to achieving our goals reality. We applaud the forward thinking of the Governor and California Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz) Director Dee Dee Myers in ensuring all regions are covered by CEDS.” – Matthew Mena – Inland Economic Growth & Opportunity (IEGO) A heartfelt thank you to our federal and state delegation! 🙌🏼 #IELegislatorsRoundtable #CAJobsFirst #ElevateTheIE #IEDelegation #InlandSoCalThrive #IEGO #IELI Graciela Moran

Last week, IEGO had the incredible opportunity to visit California State University-San Bernardino’s Center for Cyber & AI, where we met with Tony Coulson and Erinea House to learn more about the impactful programs and resources available to students. We had insightful discussions about the workforce needs, opportunities, and challenges shaping the cybersecurity industry across the region. A highlight of our visit was hearing from students Racheal Duru, Christian Magana, Brandon Gray, and Friday Kriedeman about their projects and focus areas—it's inspiring to see the next generation of cybersecurity leaders in action! A huge thank you to Scott Young for joining us and to the Center for Cyber & AI for hosting us. We’re excited to continue supporting and collaborating on efforts to grow the cybersecurity talent pipeline in the Inland Empire! #IEGO #InlandEmpire #Cybersecurity

We’re proud to see the Inland Empire recognized as a leader in apprenticeship programs! With 13,262 active apprentices, the Inland Empire is demonstrating that skills-based training is a powerful driver of economic mobility. Collaboration between community colleges, workforce development boards, Inland Empire Labor Institute (IELI) and intermediaries like LAUNCH Apprenticeship Network (LAUNCH) has been instrumental in building strong apprenticeship pathways. As we look ahead, expanding access, especially for underrepresented groups, and growing opportunities in fields like healthcare, advanced manufacturing, IT/cybersecurity, and clean technology will be essential. #IEGO #InlandEmpire #Apprenticeships #WorkforceDevelopment #EconomicMobility #CareerPathways
