Our intrepid rugby team traveled to Houston, TX, June 20–23 for the TotalEnergies international 100 Teams Rugby Tournament, where, as Team U.S.A., they played hard, played well and had a LOT of fun! Hutchinson AI teammates included Bobbie Haggerty, Hutchinson Ithaca team lead; Erlyn Santana, buyer/planner at Vlier; and Tony Lazo, Hutchinson HSA team lead. Taking advantage of the opportunity to enhance our workforce recruitment efforts, we were selected to participate in the New England Talent Pipeline Project (NETPP), a U.S. Navy-funded project that provides employers with the tools, training and resources they need to increase their capacity to build submarines. On May 30, Hutchinson CEO Bob Andersen, machinist Giovanni Ferrara, and high security area technicians Pol Feliu Colon and Giany Rivera attended NETPP’s inaugural National Signing Day in Boston, gathering with local shipbuilding companies and suppliers, elected officials and community leaders. The U.S. Navy Submarine Industrial Base (SIB) program held the event to celebrate its 31 new employer partnerships and the future of the defense workforce. According to TMG - Consulting Engineers, Inc the company engaged to administer the NETPP, the Navy has determined it needs to hire 10,000 people in the submarine industrial base for the next 10 years. As the global leader in protecting equipment and systems, managing shock loads and isolating structure borne noise in naval environments, we are well positioned to contribute to the mission.
