The Huntington has always been more than a library, museum, and gardens—we are a gathering place for a community of the curious, where knowledge, creativity, and exploration thrive. Our new visual identity unites our collections under a shortened name and reflects the institution’s evolution and future direction. Last Wednesday, The Huntington commemorated our annual Founders’ Day with “Sowing Community: Living with Octavia E. Butler’s Parables.” A truly collaborative event, staff and leadership from throughout our institution partnered with local community leaders. The event included a panel discussion with Nikki High owner of Octavia’s Bookshelf, Butler scholar, Tamisha A. Tyler, and executive director of the Restorative Justice Center, John Williams. The panel was moderated by The Huntington’s Monique L. Thomas. The entire event, including the reception, was a celebration of Butler’s legacy and work, and the Altadena and Pasadena communities. Actor, Levar Burton and filmmaker, Garrett Bradley were special guest speakers! The Huntington is keeper of the Octavia E. Butler archives. Alice T., Karla Nielsen, Raylene Galarze, Annabel Adams, Tamisha A. Tyler, PhD, John Williams.
