A senior Tibetan lama, Humkar Dorje Rinpoche, died in Vietnam in March following months of concern by the Tibetan community about his whereabouts and well-being. His death is is especially concerning given the Chinese government’s severe repression of Tibetans and its record of snatching its nationals in Vietnam. https://lnkd.in/eHSWm6Jb

Human Rights Watch reposted this
Indigenous peoples in Malaysia have for decades witnessed encroachment and devastation to their forests. There is movement in the right direction as Sarawak announced it won't issue new leases for oil palm, but timber plantations – today’s biggest threat of deforestation and disenfranchisement – need to be an urgent priority for regulators. The moment is ripe, as Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim envisages the adoption of a national action plan on business and human rights. It is possible to do this *and* boost competitiveness of Malaysian timber products. New data from the World Health Organization reveals that many governments’ public funding of health care falls short of what is needed to meet their human rights obligations. The vast majority of people live in countries where low public funding undermines their access to health care. Sometimes this is due to major constraints like war and debt, but often governments just don’t prioritize it. Under international law, all governments have obligations to respect, protect, and fulfill all economic, social, and cultural rights, including the right to health, which requires access to quality healthcare facilities, goods, and services.

At least 58 civilians have been killed and thousands more displaced following South Sudan's use of incendiary weapons in military airstrikes. The attacks horrifically burned dozens of people and destroyed civilian infrastructure. The government's use of these weapons in populated areas may amount to war crimes: https://lnkd.in/eqD-t8Rw
