Hudson Link’s presence at NCHEP Day 2 was truly remarkable. Among influential figures in the field, Hudson Link stood as a beacon of excellence and innovation in prison education. During the THEI Bloomsbury Handbook of Prison Education Lunch Panel, our Executive Director Dr. Lila McDowell’s literary contributions were rightfully recognized alongside key members of the Higher Education in Prison (HEP) community. We express our sincere gratitude to Dr. Laura Ferguson Mimms, Tennessee Higher Education Initiative staff, Dr. Erin Corbett, and the other contributing authors for not just delivering an exceptional panel but for providing an invaluable resource that embodies an unwavering commitment to shaping a brighter future through education, one student at a time. As the memories of NCHEP linger in New York (marked by a sprinkle of beignet powder), the conference serves as a lasting reminder of the power of education to transcend barriers and unite communities, reinforcing the importance of building bridges through knowledge and partnership. #NCHEP2025 #HudsonLink #highered #neworleans

About us
We envision lives that are transformed with the help of education in order to break the cycle of crime and poverty. To make this vision a reality, Hudson Link for Higher Education in Prison provides college education, life skills, and re-entry support to currently and formerly incarcerated people so they can make a positive impact on their own lives, their families, and communities, resulting in lower rates of recidivism, incarceration, and poverty. In 1994, college degree programs at Sing Sing Correctional Facility and other New York State Prisons were terminated when state and federal governments withdrew financial support. In 1998, aware of the devastating effect this would have on prison morale, Hudson Link for Higher Education was formed to fill this incredible need. In 2001 seventeen men at Sing Sing graduated from the Hudson Link program with a Bachelor's degree. Today: Hudson Link has granted over 1,000 degrees and over 1,500 of our alumni have been released and are leading productive lives in their communities and with their families. We currently sponsor college credit-bearing and college-degree granting programs in Sing Sing, Sullivan, Greene, Green Haven, Shawangunk, and Taconic Correctional Facilities, in partnership with nine local colleges.
