New issue spreads of sponsor-backed private credit transactions are widening. Comparing the spreads of direct lending deals for companies with $100 million or more of EBITDA to the spreads of single-B rated broadly syndicated loans, absolute direct lending spread levels are in excess of 500 basis points, and the pickup offered over broadly syndicated loan spreads is over 200 basis points.

For the second year in a row, more capital was refinanced from the broadly syndicated loan market into the direct lending market than the reverse. In our view, companies seeking capital often turn to private credit managers because of their ability to offer tailored solutions, scaled capital and greater execution certainty.
