About us

Homeboy Industries mission is to hope, training, and support to formerly gang-involved and previously incarcerated adults and youth, allowing them to redirect their lives and become contributing members of our community. For 30 years, Homeboy Industries has created a therapeutic community that provides the critical support needed for gang members and previously incarcerated individuals to change their lives. This non profit organization has made a singular impact on the Los Angeles community, not only by providing a means for thousands of individuals to support their families, but also by cultivating healing that helps ensure the cycle of violence is broken. More than 300 people each year are employed through job training positions in our downtown Los Angeles headquarters. They learn on-the-job skills in what is often their first “real” job. They are encouraged to use their workday to work on themselves through a variety of free programs and services like mental health therapy, tattoo removal, substance abuse counseling, parenting and financial literacy classes, GED tutoring, solar panel installation training, case management and legal services. Additionally, thousands of L.A. community clients, have access to a segment of our services including employment counseling and tattoo removal. These are all offered free of charge thanks, in large part, to the donations we receive. In addition to being a 501(c)3 not-for-profit, Homeboy Industries operates nearly a dozen social enterprises including: Homegirl Café, Homeboy Bakery, HomeboyFoods.com, Homeboy Diner at L.A. City Hall, Homeboy Gluten-Free Bakery, Homegirl Catering, Homeboy Silkscreen and Embroidery, Homeboy Merchandise and Homeboy Electronics Recycling. We also license the brand for distribution via Retail Grocery and an LAX quick service restaurant.

Meet Norma “I was at a point where I wanted to give up. My record kept me from getting a job, and I felt stuck. Then someone told me about Homeboy Industries. With the support of Homeboy’s Legal Services team, my felonies were reduced, my record was expunged, and now—I have a resume full of experience. I’ve been sober for almost six years. I don’t feel stuck anymore. I know I can move forward. I’m not alone. I have support. And I don’t have to run anymore.” Norma’s story is one of resilience, transformation, and hope. 💚 https://hubs.ly/Q03f_M-70 #SecondChances #Hope #HomeboyIndustries #ImpactALife #SupportAndEmpower #BreakTheCycle Homeboy Industries

  • Dear Homeboy Family, Thirty days ago, we stepped into the role of Co-CEOs, humbled and honored to lead Homeboy Industries. The trust this community places in us is sacred, and we remain grounded in the prayer upon which Homeboy was founded—to provide hope to those for whom hope is foreign. This past Saturday, we gathered for the 22nd annual Lo Máximo Awards, celebrating the 10,000 people who walk through our doors each year in search of a new life. Lo Máximo—"the best of us"—recognizes Homeboy and Homegirl Heroes, alumni of our 18-month program, who embody resilience and transformation. We honored Kanaka Luna Jennings, newly-minted program director for a re-entry non profit organization, and Hugo Gonzalez, a non profit leader and gang interventionist, both living testaments to second chances. We also recognized Brenda and Stéphane Bancel for their commitment to building movements of kinship and Thomas Vozzo for his 12 years of visionary leadership as Homeboy’s first CEO. Thanks to your support, and a generous matching gift from the Johnny Carson Foundation, 1,100 guests and donors from across the country helped raise nearly $1.9 million to propel our mission forward. Homeboy is more than a program—it is a movement of radical belonging where hope is tangible. We offer hope to those battling addiction, to thousands who visit us to witness healing over punishment, and to those still incarcerated, who dream of walking through our doors. Our vision is clear: to transform how the world sees and treats the most marginalized among us. And we are committed to two truths: Embracing abundance. Our community is worthy of investment —jobs, education, healing—we reject a zero sum game mentality. Relentless commitment. At Homeboy, hope operates at the crossroads of life and death, requiring action today. This is why we have doubled the number of trainees in our 18-month program to nearly 500. It is why we are expanding our 14 social enterprises—including Puppy Fades dog grooming and a new commissary kitchen—to create quality jobs and economic mobility. It is why we are building Hope Village, a model of integrated housing and care that supersedes incarceration. And it is why we are expanding programs like the Homeboy Art Academy and youth reentry center to stand with young people too often discarded. None of this is possible without your support in the secret sauce of Homeboy – our people. Seventy percent of our staff are homegrown leaders, holding the door open for the next person seeking change. We need your generous investment now more than ever as we navigate a shifting landscape with profound implications for our community. We look ahead to next year’s Lo Máximo, where we will once again celebrate "the best of us." Until then, we invite you to join us in relentless commitment to abundance and kinship. Thank you for standing with Homeboy. In kinship, Shirley Torres & Steve Delgado Co-Chief Executive Officers

As Second Chance Month begins, we're more committed to the power of community and the importance of second chances. Partnering with Homeboy Industries for their "Lo Máximo Awards" reminds us of the resilience and potential within every individual. Securus supports successful reentry by connecting incarcerated individuals to education, skill building and job placement resources—contributing to strong community outcomes. #SecondChanceMonth #LoMaximo2025 #HomeboyIndustries #ReentryMatters #BreakingBarriers

The Homeboy Industries "Lo Maximo" Gala - always a deeply moving convening of people to celebrate the great work of this LA institution. I saw warm embraces, calls for forgiveness, appeals to love on each other, and so much joy. The energy there is what the world needs more of.
