Effective planning isn’t just visionary, it’s practical, purposeful, and grounded in the needs of real communities. When paired with thoughtful design, we don’t just shape how places look — we use knowledge and experience to influence how people live and connect, and how places function and grow. At the Town at Trilith, HGOR is bringing this philosophy to life. Almost a decade after the project's inception, Town at Trilith has taken shape as a vibrant, mixed-use community that truly does it all. From the earliest stages, HGOR’s approach focused on placemaking to foster a strong sense of belonging while integrating resilient infrastructure and walkable, human-scaled design. Public spaces support social connection through an interconnected street and trail network linking homes, shops, workplaces, and parks, while green infrastructure solutions sustainably manage stormwater and native plantings reinforce biodiversity and resilience. Today, the Town at Trilith is shaping a national model for what’s possible when planning and design work in harmony — a resilient, thriving place that’s built to adapt, connect, and endure. #WLAM #WLAM2025 #resilientplanning #resilientdesign #planning #landscapearchitecture #metroAtlanta #TownatTrilith #Trilith Town at Trilith

For decades, the Metro Atlanta region has experienced significant growth and opportunity—driven by an expanding network of highways, continued suburban development, and a growing number of companies establishing roots across the broader area. With the continued wave of development, intentional planning and thoughtful landscape architecture is critical to support places that function and thrive. From nature centers to emerging town districts, HGOR believes that great design doesn’t just look good — it works hard for the communities it serves. - Growth + Connectivity: Strategic planning ensures that communities grow with intention as the metro expands. Balancing density with open space, improving access, and linking people to jobs, recreation and each other. - Placemaking + Regional Destinations: Successful placemaking fosters vibrant communities, transforming them into memorable, people-centered environments that strengthen local identity, support economic vitality, and foster a sense of belonging across a rapidly growing region. - Sustainable Infrastructure + Resilient Design: Integrating sustainable solutions like parks, greenways, and natural stormwater systems support environmental health and durability that creates lasting, durable spaces that protect generations of both people and essential ecosystems. #WLAM #WLAM2025 #HGOR #LandscapeArchitecture

In densely built urban environments, space is at a premium — and every square foot has the potential to serve more than one purpose. HGOR combines thoughtful urban planning with innovative landscape architecture concepts to prioritize meaningful open space while integrating essential infrastructure solutions. The result? Places like this — purpose-built public spaces that support both ecological function and the human experience. At City Place, HGOR reimagined a stormwater requirement as a vibrant, multifunctional open space that creates walkable connections to surrounding blocks. Later named Marie Sims Park, the greenspace serves a variety of purposes for daily users and events while also managing the stormwater for the entire development through a multi-tiered system, enhancing water quality and resiliency. Today, Marie Sims Park represents a lasting contribution to the city - creating a flexible, vibrant, and resilient urban park that strengthens connections to the surrounding community. #WLAM #WLAM2025 #HGOR #LandscapeArchitecture

Atlanta’s urban core has long been a center of movement, commerce, and culture – shaped by rail lines, highways, and waves of development that have connected people while also creating barriers. As the city has grown, challenges like fragmented public spaces, safety concerns, and environmental stressors have emerged, making the role of landscape architects more essential than ever. Atlanta's future depends on people-first places that foster connection, safety, and resilience. - Connectivity: Intentional design shapes a more connected, accessible city, ensuring key destinations are seamlessly linked and enhancing mobility for all. - Safety: By revitalizing public spaces and improving pedestrian infrastructure, we create vibrant, people-centered environments that promote safety and ease of movement. - Greenspaces + Open Space: Parks and public spaces serve as both gathering spaces and critical infrastructure, supporting community well-being while reinforcing Atlanta's identity. - Stormwater Management + Public Health: Integrating green infrastructure helps mitigate flooding in historically underserved areas, improving public health and building a more resilient urban landscape. #WLAM #WLAM2025 #HGOR #LandscapeArchitecture American Society of Landscape Architects --- (Mercedes-Benz photo credit: Michael Robinson Photography)

Well said, Park Pride! Parks are more than "just parks." Parks are one of the few places where people can truly be free in nature--and thoughtful landscape architecture elevates these spaces by creating resilient environments where communities can "Connect on Common Ground". In Atlanta, green spaces serve as vital community hubs and provide both beauty and recreation, but intentional design ensures that parks also enhance ecological health, support diverse communities, and inspire future generations. Thank you to Park Pride for hosting yet another successful, impactful conference!

And just like that – another Park Pride Parks & Greenspace Conference is in the books! 👏 Yesterday, over 500 of our closest friends and park champions gathered at the Atlanta Botanical Garden (with gloriously colorful seas of tulips in full bloom) to talk all things parks and greenspaces. Our annual Conference is about more than just parks. It's about the environment, community, urbanism, learning and building connections – just to name a few. Yesterday perfectly exemplified the power of parks and embodied the spirit of our theme, Connecting on Common Ground. Simply put, parks are more than "just parks." But we're preaching to the choir on that one. A huge thank you to our speakers, sponsors and attendees! 💚

Well-designed campuses aren’t just about aesthetics - they’re intentionally designed to foster connection, enhance the student experience, and reflect the institution’s values. HGOR’s relationship with Mercer University began in 2013 with the transformation of Cruz Plaza into a vibrant gathering space and has since helped shape a campus that prioritizes the pedestrian experience and strengthens community through thoughtful placemaking. “We were so impressed with HGOR that we retained them to do lots of other projects,” said Dr. James Netherton, Mercer’s executive vice president for administration and finance. “Everything they’ve done has helped make the campus more beautiful.” But beauty is just one part of the equation. These transformations have turned roads into walkways, empty spaces into gathering spots, and entrances into memorable first impressions. “When you’re inside a building, that building can be anywhere in the world. When you’re outside, the ecosystem, the weather, the unique topography of the land, the views you have really define what is truly unique in that sense of place”, says Todd Fuller, HGOR Principal. Mercer’s campus transformation reflects a broader shift in higher education toward place-based design.
