  • This week marks International Plasma Awareness Week (IPAW), a vital initiative dedicated to raising awareness of plasma donation and its life-saving impact on patients worldwide. Plasma, the liquid component of our blood, plays a crucial role in treating a range of medical conditions. By donating plasma, individuals help produce therapies for those with clotting disorders, immunodeficiencies, and other critical health issues. Each donation has the potential to touch multiple lives. This week is an opportunity to educate our communities: Share Your Story: if you’re a plasma donor, why do you donate? Educate Others: share facts about plasma donation and its benefits. For example, it can take 1,200 donations to treat one hemophilia patient. Encourage Donations: Reach out to friends and family and encourage them to consider becoming a plasma donor. Together, we can make a difference and ensure that patients in need receive the treatments they deserve. Joe Malory, Senior Vice President Commercial Operations #IPAW2024

Plasma donation centers often become community hubs where donors form meaningful connections and friendships with fellow donors and staff who support them. These donor communities create a sense of belonging and shared purpose. Nurturing these donor communities is essential, as they are the backbone that sustains the availability of plasma-derived medicines.  Have you recently visited a plasma collection centre? Share your experience below!👇

Plasma is the straw-colored liquid portion of blood. It contains hundreds of proteins which carry out critical functions in the human body, such as antibodies to fight diseases and clotting factors to regulate bleeding. If a person has insufficient level of any one plasma protein, the body cannot carry out some vital functions, which may cause a variety of chronic and life-threating medical conditions.
