Updates

  • April is National Safe Digging Month — here’s your reminder to call before you dig! Whether you’re planting a tree or installing a new fence, be sure to call 811 before you start digging. The national 811 number is available from anywhere in the U.S., and one phone call connects you to your local One Call Center, who will route you to affected utility companies to mark your underground utility lines for free. Hitting a utility line while digging can result in serious injury, costly repairs, and disrupted utility services. Don’t take the risk! It’s always better to be safe and take extra precaution.

  • In support of the downtown Honolulu and Chinatown area, we want to highlight more of the great small businesses! Many of these businesses are perfect places to visit while on your lunch break from work, or if you live nearby – including the restaurants in Pioneer Plaza! Pioneer Plaza is home to many small businesses that are great to do a quick takeout lunch, from coffee to tonkatsu, sushi, poke, kimbap, and more! The most recent addition to Pioneer Plaza is Lahaina Tacos, which originally was in Lahaina on Maui but relocated after the fires. Their new location in downtown Honolulu is now open, serving up burritos, tacos, and other delicious Mexican foods! Visit Pioneer Plaza in downtown Honolulu and support small businesses on your next lunch break! Audio credit: Little Bitty Pretty One by Ace Cannon

  • Happy throwback Thursday! We’re pulling a special highlight “From The Vault” to celebrate Women’s History Month! During World War II in the 1940s, the “Hecoettes” held dual roles as our employees and members of the Women's Army Volunteer Corps (WAVC), a non-combatant branch of the U.S. Army. Our employees Dorothy Johnston, Kam How Pang, May Watson, Alberta Cabral, and Iwalani Fernandez pose in their uniforms at the Iolani Palace, where they drilled twice a week! The Hecoettes’ active participation in the WAVC paved the way for women to serve in the military today, and their courage to defy stereotypes still serves as an inspiration today.
