If you think video games are a waste of time, you may want to reevaluate your opinion. Research increasingly shows that gaming can build cognitive, social, and emotional skills that are relevant to organizational success. In a recent article for Harvard Business Review, author Jesse Olsen discusses the benefits of gaming and explains how managers can use it to ‘lead by example.’ Ultimately, Olsen concludes that “normalizing gaming not only supports inclusivity but also helps organizations recognize and harness the diverse skills gaming can bring to the workforce.” To get the conversation going, we must ask two questions: 1) What’s your favorite way to game? (E.g. Xbox, Playstation, Computer or Switch) 2) What are you currently playing? Women-Owned Wednesday! We’re kicking off April by recognizing the accomplishments of Belgian botanist and mycologist Marie-Anne Libert. As a young adult, Libert taught herself Latin to study plant texts and became a prolific author on fungal species. She identified more than 200 new types of fungi during her lifetime and established an international reputation, corresponding with scientists all over the world. Libert’s research was particularly beneficial in terms of disease prevention. She was the first person to identify the organism responsible for the “light blight” disease of the potato, which caused the Irish Potato Famine. Artificial intelligence (AI) is everywhere these days, and the world of drug development and research is no different. But how does this technology improve clinical trial processes? Medscape answers this (and other related questions) in a new report. Key takeaways include: - AI aids in identifying off-label drug uses that don’t require new trials. - The technology prioritizes drugs with the greatest potential benefits, saving time and costs. - AI reduces the need for extensive trials by analyzing preexisting data. Surgery is the only effective way to improve vision in people with cataracts, but that could change soon, thanks in part, to a hibernating ground squirrel. Don’t feel bad if you had to read that sentence twice, it’s quite the lede! Researchers from the NIH’s National Eye Institute (NEI) along with collaborators in China have identified a protein that may be able to eliminate cataracts without surgery. The discovery was made while studying the thirteen-lined ground squirrel. These fuzzy little guys hibernate every winter, and when they do, their lenses get cloudy. But once Spring returns and the temperatures warm up those cataracts go away. The researchers developed an experiment to learn how the ground squirrels pull this feat off and their findings may provide a more effective (and completely noninvasive) cataract treatment. https://hubs.li/Q030Xt0D0 #Cataracts #CataractSurgery #EyeDisease #NationalEyeInstitute #NIH #PreClinicalResearch #Research

Up to 70% of people experience imposter syndrome at some point in their careers, according to research published in the International Journal of Behavioral Science. But if those self-doubts are allowed to flourish, they can impede your professional success. In a recent guest column for Clinical Leader, John R. Nocero, Ph.D., and Nicole M. Palmer, MS, provide simple and effective strategies for keeping imposter syndrome at bay. Both agree that good things will happen if you’re confident (but humble) in your abilities and stop worrying about what others think. https://hubs.li/Q030XtpW0 #ImposterSyndrome #ClinicalResearchProfessionals #Confidence #ProfessionalGrowth #ClinicalResearch #HighAchievers #CareerTips #CareerSuccess
