While the company has grown, that commitment to hands-on management remains, with leadership staying closely involved through weekly traffic reports, monthly asset meetings, and property visits. Even though Harbor Group Management Company sold the property nearly 30 years ago, it still holds a special place in our history. To this day, I still look out the window and notice it when flying into Norfolk, VA. Emily Simrakovic, HG Certified Mentor and Regional Manager, shares how resilience, mentorship, and self-belief have shaped her leadership journey. "Growing up, I was taught to follow conventional gender roles. As I matured, I noticed the lack of female representation in leadership but never let it deter me. My mother, who immigrated from the Philippines and escaped unimaginable hardships, instilled in me the courage to pursue my dreams. She taught me I was more than just a girl—I was a force equal to any man. I never stayed in my lane and believed everyone is capable of achieving more and dreaming bigger. As I advanced into leadership, I saw the importance of female representation. My advice to young women: align with your organization’s values, stay focused, and never let opinions undermine your capabilities. Own your womanhood, honor our sisterhood, and be your authentic self. Persevere, remain professional, and never feel guilty for prioritizing your well-being. Lastly, know your worth and the worth of those around you. Diversity is what makes the world wonderful.
