Hackensack Meridian Health and the Stevens Institute of Technology have collaborated on research and innovation since 2012. This collaboration has led to discoveries that perfectly match HMH’s health-care experience with Stevens’ engineering expertise closely related to healthcare. Both institutions are looking to foster, and expand, further breakthroughs into the future. The two institutions held a research webinar on February 27 to reconnect experts and open the doors to further collaboration projects. Selected Stevens experts presented their specialities and capacities. Much interest and enthusiasm greeted the potential for the two sides to expand their collaborative work together in four “clusters”: Bioinformatics; Rehabilitation Engineering and Medical Robotics; Medical Imaging and Signal Processing; and Chronic Care Delivery Systems. Earlier today, I had the privilege of joining Heidi Sommer in conversation at my fourth POLITICO Live Health Care Summit to discuss one of the most urgent topics in our industry: workforce shortage and burnout. Without a solution, this issue would be felt across health care, from fatigue for our team members to wait times for our patients. At Hackensack Meridian Health, it's one we're facing head on. Our RN vacancy rate is now just 5% — half of the national average. Through Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine, our three nursing schools, our strategic partnership with Apollo Hospitals and our robust tuition reimbursement and education programs, we are proud to be supporting this generation of team members and those to follow in the future. And by embracing new technologies, creating a positive culture and removing unnecessary barriers, we build an environment in which patients and team members alike can thrive. #healthcare #burnout #workforce

We are one of Fortune's 100 Best Companies to Work For, named at #72 — the highest ranked health care organization in New Jersey and one of 9 named nationwide. This incredible milestone is thanks to our extraordinary team members. It is because of you — your dedication, care and empathy — that our culture has received this recognition. At the heart of everything we do is our purpose: caring for our patients. By inspiring us to keep getting better, they ensure we do just that. Congratulations to the community that made this possible! #100BestCos

Last week marked Jersey Mike’s Day of Giving, in which every dollar made at Jersey Mike's Subs is donated to local charities. Our CEO, Robert C. Garrett, decided to join the celebration by providing a delicious lunch to the dedicated team members at John Theurer Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center as a thank you for all they do. From tap-dancing to bingo nights to simply living her life filled with joy, Fannie's story exemplifies the "why" behind every incredible physician we have. On this #DoctorsDay, we are celebrating the care, compassion and service that all physicians bring to their roles every day.

Every day, doctors make a difference in the lives of patients — and their patients make a difference in theirs. Emmanuel, a fourth year student at Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine, asked Dr. Fam to share a moment that changed his. #DoctorsDay

When it comes to caring for our patients, we know our team members are the experts. That's the inspiration behind Bear's Den, an innovation program powered by a panel of experts who evaluate ideas, strategies and inventions from entrepreneurs, partners and our very own team. Our three winning concepts, which will now go into effect or into pilot programs, all aim at reducing re-admissions. Arun Antony, a neurologist at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, pitched a new protocol for rapid evaluation and quicker diagnosis of neurological conditions. Patricia Bonatakis, an acute care physical therapist at Jersey Shore, created a patient-friendly discharge handout that allows for easier understanding of follow-ups and medications. Thais Wilson and Samantha Huebner, a patient care technician and registered nurse at Ocean University Medical Center, suggested a solution to provide after-visit summaries in multiple languages. Each of these ideas has the potential to better the health of our community. We are proud to have these brilliant minds in the Hackensack Meridian family.
