"I WAS TRULY HATED...I remember searching for a place where I felt valued ...but you can't outrun racism." Leola Hampton I'll be watching "Never Cry: The Story of Bussing in Boston," with my two young boys today. Leola Hampton was 14 when she and her sister were "desegregated" to South Boston High School. She speaks about her experience in the documentary. Why and I sharing this with my children now? Because I want them to push up against racism and bias in this ever-changing world. They are white boys, the same age as Leola Hampton, and I want them to know her story. I want them to be able to call "Bullsh*t" and treat others as they hope to be treated. I want them to see fear and racism for what they are... DEI does not cause plane crashes. Love cannot be eclipsed by hate. Is this an applicable topic on LinkedIn? I think so. Because our bias, whether profound or discrete, impacts all aspects of our human connection - including our performance and leadership at work.
