Behind-the-scenes, pre-presentation shots from something I’ve been wanting to do since last year—a session for parents on AI and social media safety. The idea started after I read about a teen in Florida who died by suicide after developing a deep emotional connection with a Game of Thrones character on Character.ai. That story hit me hard. It could have been any of our kids. Last night, Marla Dakin, LCSW, LICSW and I delivered our first session to a group of parents and caregivers. I hope it’s the first of many. Social media conversations have been a long time coming—and now, with generative AI in the mix, the urgency has only grown. The tech is evolving faster than what most parents and caregivers are even aware of, widening the gap between how our kids experience it and how prepared we are to guide them through it. We may not have all the answers. We may not have a perfect roadmap. But we need to talk about it—early and often. A new survey of US workers finds that GenAI use continues to grow: 30% use GenAI at work, 1/3 of those use it every day And the productivity gains appear large: workers report that when they use AI it triples their productivity (reduces a 90 minute task to 30 minutes).
