Being distracted is one of the most dangerous yet commonplace things a driver can do – and it’s 100% preventable. Technology is a promising long-term solution, but education and enforcement continue to play a key role in preventing this deadly behavior and making our roads safer for everyone. GHSA’s Daniel Zimmerman and Adam Snider supported the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration NHTSA’s launch of its “Put the Phone Away or Pay” high visibility enforcement campaign this week at U.S. Department of Transportation headquarters. State and Territorial Highway Safety Offices across the country are working closely with their federal, state and local partners to raise public awareness and get drivers to focus on the road. 👦 👧 Teens and novice drivers are some of the riskiest on the road due to lack of experience. 🤝 🧠 GHSA and Ford Philanthropy have worked for more than two decades to help our youngest drivers be safe on the road by providing teens with free, hands-on training that gives them the skills they need to protect themselves, their passengers and everyone else on the road. 🚗 📺 We kicked off our 22nd year of Ford Driving Skills for Life in Jackson, Tennessee last weekend. I’m back from Phoenix after a productive two-day meeting of the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) Executive Board. I really enjoyed the forward-thinking conversations about roadway safety with leaders from Uber and Waymo. Harnessing technology to give people more ways to get around is a win-win – offering a critical connection for those with limited mobility options and making our roads safer for everyone.
