A Not-For-Profit Arts and Civic Organization in the Heart of the Loop
About us
Goodman Theatre, Chicago’s oldest and largest not-for-profit theater, has won international renown for the quality of productions, the depth and diversity of artistic leadership, and the excellence of its many community and educational programs. Under the guidance of Artistic Director Susan V. Booth and Executive Director Roche Schulfer, the Goodman is committed to producing both classic and contemporary works, giving full voice to a wide range of artists and visions. Central to that mission is the Goodman Artistic Collective, a diverse group of outstanding theater artists whose distinctive visions have given the Goodman an artistic identity of uncommon richness and variety. By dedicating itself to three guiding principles—quality, diversity and community—Goodman Theatre seeks to be the premier cultural organization in Chicago, providing productions and programs that make an essential contribution to the quality of life in our city.

Goodman Theatre reposted this
Last week, I was honored to produce the "CityWide: Winter 2025" event at Goodman Theatre to showcase 22 brilliant stories crafted in GeNarrations, a free-storytelling workshop for folks above the age of 55. I couldn't think of a better way to celebrate my first full year of programming as Community Programs Manager here. As lead producer of this program, I'm continually inspired by the sheer passion, talent, and empathy our community demonstrates. Find out how you or someone you know can take part in the magic by registering for our Spring 2025 session on April 14th: https://lnkd.in/g_GVikXS
Passionate Arts Education Leader Committed to Harnessing the Transformative Power of Curiosity, Exploration, and Play.
Today marks the culminating performance for this session of GeNarrations - a program that, each season, brings together 550+ storytellers, aged 55+, to share narratives inspired by their lived experiences. This past cycle, inspired by Goodman Theatre’s production of Betrayal, explored the question: What makes us lie? GeNarrations is more than a storytelling program; it’s a community. Over seven weeks, 20+ in-person and virtual locations, participants craft five to eight-minute personal stories with the guidance of our incredible Teaching Artists. This free program nurtures creativity, fosters connection, and reminds us of the power of sharing and witnessing each other's lived experiences. When I first started at the Goodman, GeNs was a north star illuminating how storytelling serves as the thread that weaves together our diverse menu of programming. GeNs reminded me that theatre is about bearing witness - about communitas, the act of a community coming together to share a liminal space and experience transformation. How theatre can be a place where we practice seeing each other fully, with compassion and humanity. I’m incredibly proud of the 20+ storytellers performing today. And I’m endlessly grateful for our cohort Teaching Artists, whose dedication over the past seven weeks is a testament to how teaching is an art. Know someone who would benefit from this program? Registration for the next cycle of GeNarrations opens on Monday, April 14—I encourage you to apply, share, and help spread the word! https://lnkd.in/d2gCVCqe
