David Kostin, chief US equity strategist at Goldman Sachs, joined CNBC to discuss his outlook for stocks. His team recently cut its S&P 500 3-month and 12-month return forecasts to -5% and +6% (previously +0% and +16%). Based on market prices at the end of last week, these suggest S&P 500 Index levels of roughly 5300 and 5900, respectively. The revised forecast is driven by the potential for slower economic growth and greater inflation due to higher-than-expected tariffs. Watch the full interview below.

“We're going to look back on 2025 as a historic inflection point, with tremendous amounts of capital going into AI infrastructure projects at a scale that we just haven't seen in decades.” In this episode of #TheInsight, Rebecca Kruger, partner in the Natural Resources Group in Investment Banking, discusses the convergence of two diametrically opposed industries: the power sector, characterized by long-term investments, a slow pace of change, and a focus on reliability and affordability—and the technology sector, powered by an ethos of "move fast and break things." Why are private equity investors focusing on Japan? “The opportunity for corporate carveouts or take-privates is firmly on the radar”, explained Stephanie Hui at Asian Private Banker’s recent Alternatives in Focus 2025 event. Japan’s economy is about one-sixth the size of the United States', but it has a similar number of listed companies. Close to 40% are trading below book value and being encouraged to delist. Many hold real estate and cross-shareholdings on their balance sheets. “There is a lot of intrinsic worth to be unlocked,” said Stephanie, “but relationships very much matter in Japan, so it’s important to have an experienced sponsor who can build the trust of these companies”.
