As Stand Up 4 Grain Safety Week comes to a close, we want to thank everyone who participated in our Toolbox Talks, training sessions and safety challenges. We’ve made progress as an industry—grain entrapments decreased 35.7% from 2022 to 2023 and total confined space incidents dropped 33.7%—but safety isn’t just about statistics. It’s about making sure every person goes home safely every day. Thank you to OSHA, the National Grain and Feed Alliance and all industry partners for sponsoring Stand Up 4 Grain Safety Week and helping to drive awareness around grain safety. For continued learning and resources, visit StandUp4GrainSafety.org. #GrainSafety #StandUp4GrainSafety #JDH #GoldStar

With nearly 8,000 commercial grain storage facilities in the U.S. and 19 billion bushels of corn and soybeans stored last year, safety in our industry is critical. While grain entrapments decreased by 35.7% in 2023, 49% of all confined space incidents last year were grain entrapments and 59% of those were fatal. For our teams, following the right safety precautions is a non-negotiable. The seven essential steps to staying safe in grain storage facilities are outlined in the graphic below. By making these steps part of our daily routine, we will reduce accidents and protect lives. For more information, training and resources, visit StandUp4GrainSafety.org. #GrainSafety #StandUp4GrainSafety #JDH #GoldStar

We’re participating in the national Stand Up 4 Grain Safety Week, an industry-wide initiative sponsored by OSHA and the National Grain and Feed Alliance, focused on preventing grain-related incidents and reinforcing best safety practices. The numbers tell the story: • 19 billion bushels of corn & soybeans were stored in 2023 • 7,922 commercial off-farm storage facilities operating in 2024 • 49% of all confined space incidents in 2023 were grain entrapments • 59% of grain entrapment incidents last year were fatal While the industry has made progress—grain entrapments decreased by 35.7% from 2022 to 2023—there’s still work to be done. This week, we’re reinforcing key safety practices through daily Toolbox Talks, virtual training sessions and interactive safety challenges designed to keep our teams informed and engaged. For more resources, visit StandUp4GrainSafety.org. #GrainSafety #StandUp4GrainSafety #JDH #GoldStar

Congratulations to Aaron Reid, COO and president, on being elected chairman of the Transportation, Elevator & Grain Merchants Association (TEGMA). Aaron will serve a two-year term leading an organization that connects key players in North American grain transportation, including shippers, receivers, major rail carriers and logistics leaders. Aaron has been part of TEGMA’s board since 2017 and has served on its transportation committee since 2015. At the annual TEGMA meeting in Arizona, he delivered his inaugural address, sharing his hopes that the organization continues to expand its reach. "TEGMA is a North American trade association that brings together shippers and receivers, global grain companies, railroads, ports, storage houses, inspection agencies and others involved in the shipment of North American grain to customers all over the world. It’s a privilege to help lead such an impactful organization,” shares Aaron. Please join us in congratulating Aaron on this well-deserved leadership role!
