Designed by LEVER, the Adidas Headquarters Expansion is a 460,000 sf project in Portland, Oregon that includes two signature mass timber buildings and a new campus arrival sequence. Organized around a central sportscape and plaza, the buildings enhance connectivity, circulation, and cohesion across the site. The 182,000 sf Gold Building contains four levels of open office, flexible meeting areas, and a maker lab for creative work. The project reflects LEVER’s expertise in timber innovation, using a hybrid structural system of pre-cast concrete, glulam beams, and CLT panels. A new below-grade parking structure, loading facility, and landscape improvements support circulation and interaction across the campus. Project partners include Studio O+A (interiors), GGN (landscape architect), KPFF Consulting Engineers (structural/civil), Interface Engineering, Inc. (MEP/FP), Stantec (acoustical), RWDI (sustainability and commissioning), and Turner Construction Company (general contractor). Tess Schiavone, RA, LEED AP, is presenting at the Washington State University Master Gardener Foundation of Grays Harbor and Pacific Counties tomorrow, Tuesday morning, April 8. In her talk, “Native Gardens: Connections to Beauty, Joy and Discovery!”, Tess will share examples of GGN’s PNW projects and her home garden experiments to show how native gardens fit and have a special place in our lives. Tess looks forward to striking up a conversation about how native gardens can provide a deeper connection to seasonal beauty, joy, and discovery. The Master Gardener Foundation of Grays Harbor and Pacific Counties is a non-profit organization that is completely staffed by volunteers. This organization supports and promotes the WSU Extension Mater Program in Grays Harbor and Pacific Counties, which consists of university-trained individuals who aim to help WSU Extension reach their local community with science-based horticulture and environmental stewardship information generated from research at WSU and other university systems. Shannon Nichol, FASLA, PLA, has been selected to join the 2025 American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Professional Awards Jury. Every year, the ASLA Professional Awards honor the best landscape architecture work from around the world. Award recipients are given recognition in ASLA’s Landscape Architecture Magazine, and their clients will be honored at the awards presentation ceremony during this year’s ASLA Conference on Landscape Architecture. Shannon Nichol, FASLA, PLA, LEED AP, is speaking as part of The University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture’s Spring 2025 Lecture Series this Wednesday, April 2. Shannon’s lecture, Finding and Drawing Your Design, will discuss informal hand drawing as a tool for creative thinking, helpful disruption, and communication, as well as the integration of personal interests into design work. Through this lecture, Shannon will share valuable insights with students, young professionals, and designers who may be considering how to feel most creatively engaged with increasingly automated daily tasks and formulaic expectations. David Malda, ASLA, LEED AP, is the opening keynote speaker for the 2025 American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) West Quad Conference – “uncommon ground” at the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho, on Thursday, March 27. David’s presentation, Making Landscapes, will explore landscape’s potential in connecting people to the land and to each other through the land. With emphasis on building relationships among the people and places that already exist (and have often been damaged), attendees can be expected to learn how our work as landscape architects can support broader initiatives for belonging to a place, rather than simply adding another new thing. The closing keynote speaker is Jacob Dunn, LEED AP BD+C, Principal at ZGF.
