  • Today, on National Former Prisoner of War Recognition Day, we honor the extraordinary courage and sacrifice of America’s prisoners of war. 🇺🇸 These brave men and women endured unimaginable hardships in captivity, yet their resilience, loyalty, and unbreakable spirit never wavered. These heroes remind us what it means to serve with honor — even in the face of the most difficult circumstances. Observed on April 9, this day marks the anniversary of the start of the Bataan Death March in 1942 — when tens of thousands of American service members were forced to march over 60 brutal miles as prisoners of the Japanese army. Many did not survive, but their strength and resilience became a powerful symbol of American bravery and endurance. To all former POWs and their families: we see you, we thank you, and we will never forget your sacrifice. You are true American heroes. 🕊️

  • This #MedalOfHonorMonday we recognize Captain Gary Michael Rose, who showed incredible courage and selflessness while serving as a Special Forces Medic with the 5th Special Forces Group during a dangerous mission deep in enemy territory in September 1970. From September 11–14, Captain Rose repeatedly risked his life to treat and evacuate the wounded while under heavy enemy fire. Wounded multiple times himself, he refused evacuation, instead continuing to move from casualty to casualty—shielding others with his own body, providing life-saving aid, and ultimately saving the lives of numerous fellow soldiers. Even after the extraction helicopter was shot down, Captain Rose pulled wounded troops from the wreckage and continued to care for them until help arrived. His bravery and devotion to his team saved countless lives and reflect the very best of the U.S. Army.

  • This #WarriorWednesday, we honor General Ann E. Dunwoody, a true trailblazer who became the first woman in U.S. military history to achieve the rank of four-star general. Commissioned in 1975, General Dunwoody shattered glass ceilings throughout her 38-year career—from becoming the first female battalion commander in the 82nd Airborne Division to leading the Army Materiel Command, one of the largest commands in the Army with over 69,000 personnel. Thank you, General Dunwoody, for your decades of service and for paving the way for generations to come. 💪
