Storytelling is powerful. Having the ability to craft a narrative that appeals to your audience in an emotional and memorable way is important. Strong leaders and successful companies all have great stories. Storytelling isn't a new thing though. It's been around for centuries and a fixture in the history of many cultures. Last night, Bucknell University students participating in the Bucknell in Dublin Summer Internship Program, one of our Freeman College of Management signature programs, enjoyed an evening of Irish folklore and storytelling learning more about Ireland's culture and old world beliefs and superstitions. While Professor Joe Wilck and I hope that this fun evening will better equip them to write about their own stories each week as part of this journey, I'm pretty sure the biggest takeaway was...don't mess with the fairies or their trees! ‘Ray Bucknell

This weekend, Bucknell University students participating in the Bucknell in Dublin Summer Program travelled to Co. Wicklow to visit Glendalough, home to one of the most important monastic sites in Ireland. Founded by St. Kevin in the 6th century, students entered the ‘Monastic City‘ through the Gateway arches, then took in the magnificent sites of the Round Tower and strolled the path viewing both lakes. Later in the day, students explored the colorful town of Kilkenny and then received an informative tour of Kilkenny Castle, built in the twelfth century and occupied by the powerful Butler family for almost 600 years. The family sold the estate to a castle renovation committee in 1967 for a nominal fee of £50 and it was then turned over to the Irish State for many people to enjoy for years to come. Technology is amazing. Standing in front of the Portal - an installation created by Benediktas Gylys, a Lithuanian artist, located at the corner of North Earl St. and O’Connell Street in Dublin, Ireland we were able to interact with Kate Ellis, a student who participated in the Bucknell in Dublin Program last summer, as she stood in front of the other installation located in the Flatiron district of New York. What a fun experience to witness so many strangers laughing, waving, dancing, and enjoying the moment together even though 3,177.98 miles separated them. ‘Ray Bucknell in Dublin!
