Congrats, you’ve landed an interview! But … do you know who you’re meeting with? Or what you’ll be discussing? To help you feel more confident going in, here is some general guidance from our talent acquisition team on the types of people you’re likely to encounter in interviews. If you’re meeting with an HR professional/recruiter: This is often a preliminary interview done via phone or video to discuss the role and team structure as well as things like salary, benefits, and company culture. They will usually go over your resume with you, including dates and reasons for leaving previous positions, and ask you technical and/or behavioral questions. If you’re meeting with the hiring manager: This is typically the second interview following your discussion with HR. It can be a phone, video, or in-person interview and it usually consists of more technical and specific questions related to job responsibilities. They will also likely discuss expectations for the role, dive more into the team structure, and share the team’s significant short- and long-term initiatives. If you’re meeting with other key stakeholders in the organization or department: This is likely the final round of interviews, which will be conducted via video or in-person. At this point in the process, you’re likely meeting with more senior members of the organization, including those people that may be your internal “clients.” Some organizations also utilize peer interviews, which means meeting with someone who has a similar title and responsibilities. The goal of these final interviews is often to determine team and culture fit. This is your chance to really set yourself apart from other potential candidates!
