Updates

  • The health and happiness of the places we call home matter to us. That’s why #TeamFirstInterstate is proud to be an active part of the communities we serve. This March, our Watertown, South Dakota, branches were particularly busy with several philanthropic projects: - Employees crafted tie blankets to donate to Beacon Center, which provides hope, safety, and resources to victims of domestic and sexual violence. - Beacon Center was also the recipient of our #NeighborsFeedingNeighbors food drive, one of our signature community outreach programs. - We hosted a dinner at The Watertown Banquet, a non-profit effort to provide guests with a moment of caring and friendship, as well as a free hot, home-cooked meal. - Employees staffed a booth during the Watertown Middle School's Carnival of Careers, an incentive event where students learned about different industries and job opportunities. We definitely recommend #CommunityBanking 😉 Kudos, Watertown! #BetterTogether #SeekGreatness #CelebrateSuccess Member FDIC. Equal Housing Lender.

  • Congratulations to Wendy McDowell, a Branch Hub Specialist from our Coeur d'Alene Riverstone Dr. branch, who was recently selected by the Idaho Bankers Association to receive a $1,500 scholarship to attend the 2025 American Bankers Association Emerging Leaders Forum and Washington Summit, April 6-9, 2025. #SeekGreatness #CelebrateSuccess Wendy recently completed IBA’s Emerging Leaders program where she examined the five core values of self-management: managing authority with humility, communicating effectively, managing time with purpose, displaying and maintaining emotional health, and achieving personal versatility. Her participation in the program and ongoing professional growth no doubt caught the scholarship selection committee’s attention—and has made her a valued part of #TeamFirstInterstate for almost seven years. Kudos, Wendy! Member FDIC. Equal Housing Lender.

I’m honored to be selected alongside so many incredible Iowans within the 2025 IOWA 500: Most Influential Business Leaders, including many friends and mentors I’ve had along my journey. It’s surreal to think just over five years ago I was still working on trying to get a YMCA built for my hometown. At that time, I’m grateful I received this life-changing advice I’ve used as my guiding light since: “far too many people try to take what they can from the community they call home instead of them utilizing their talents to give back and build it up.” This is now true today more than ever. So… I would like to challenge each of you with a simple question: what are you doing to build up your respective community instead of taking from it? If every citizen constantly asked themselves that, just think how much better off our state, and country, would be! A special thanks to John F. Lohman and the Corridor Media Group for not only including me, but more impressively, continuing to excel in an industry that isn’t exactly known for growth. The Corridor Business Journal is a true entrepreneurial success, everything us community bankers want to see!
