On a mission to connect every person facing hunger with nutritious meals by maximizing food rescue.

About us

Feeding San Diego is a non-profit organization on a mission to connect every person facing hunger with nutritious meals by maximizing food rescue. Established in 2007, Feeding San Diego rescues surplus food from local and national food donors before it goes to waste and gets it to people facing hunger in San Diego County. It is the only Feeding America partner food bank in the region. Each year, the hunger-relief organization provides more than 35.4 million meals to children, families, seniors, college students, military families, and veterans in partnership with a network of nearly 350 local charities, schools, colleges, faith communities, healthcare providers, and meal sites. It operates nine distinct programs countywide that support people facing hunger with food assistance or resources. More than 76 percent of the food distributed by Feeding San Diego is rescued, allowing high-quality food to be redirected instead of going to waste. By diverting more than 31 million pounds of food from the landfill, Feeding San Diego protects people and the planet. Every $1 donated helps provide two meals to people facing hunger. • Today, we welcomed Congressman Mike Levin to Feeding San Diego for an important conversation about the growing challenges in the fight against hunger. Due to recent federal cuts, we’re at risk of losing access to over 500,000 pounds of nutritious food that could be purchased through the Local Food Purchase Assistance Program (LFPA). LFPA has helped us purchase and distribute fresh, locally grown food to communities across San Diego County. Without continued support, programs like this are in jeopardy. 💬 “Fighting hunger has always been one of my top priorities in Congress. I’ll continue to stand up for food banks, defend food assistance programs from grueling cuts, and push for the restoration of federal funding.” — Rep. Levin Over 350,000 San Diegans - including more than 100,000 children - are facing food insecurity. These cuts couldn’t come at a worse time. We remain committed to our mission to end hunger through food rescue and rely on our community to help make it possible. 🧡

  • Did you know that women are more likely to experience food insecurity? This #WomensHistoryMonth, join us in celebrating the women of Feeding San Diego who dedicate their days to making sure edible surplus food gets to the people who need it right here in San Diego County 🧡

  • Thanks to The Cappetta Family Foundation, Pauma School is officially off the wait list for a school pantry and is able to provide 100 families with nutritious groceries for nights and weekends twice a month! This is a big step towards food security in a rural area of San Diego County that urgently needed resources. We are so grateful to Nancy Jo and John Cappetta for choosing to sponsor a school pantry this year. It's only with the support of our donors that we can expand the School Pantry Program! According to Pauma School Principal Sarah Songer, there is a high need in the Pauma area with many families struggling financially. The area is a food desert, with the closest big grocery stores in Escondido or Temecula, both of which are at least 20-minute drives away. In the immediate area, the community doesn’t have a lot of options for food. The school is surrounded by citrus groves but it's not necessarily accessible to the kids. School staff really wanted to prioritize being able to provide families with food, and now with this partnership with Feeding San Diego, they can. #programs #nonprofit #endhunger
