About us
The Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland is one of 12 Reserve Banks that together with the Board of Governors in Washington DC, comprise the Federal Reserve System. As the US central bank, the Fed formulates and implements monetary policy, provides payment services to commercial banks and the US government, and supervises banking institutions. The Cleveland Fed operates from its headquarters in downtown Cleveland and from two branches in Cincinnati and Pittsburgh. It employs some 1000+ people and serves the Fourth Federal Reserve District, which comprises Ohio, western Pennsylvania, the northern panhandle of West Virginia, and eastern Kentucky. The Cleveland Fed began operating in 1914 in a temporary location, and opened its current headquarters in 1923. Contrary to common misperception, the Cleveland Fed’s employees are not government employees. The Federal Reserve is an independent entity within government. It is not owned by anyone and is not a private, profit-making institution. In this newly released working paper, researchers empirically explore the impact of further disaggregation in the CPI components. They accomplish this by examining fifteen candidate baskets of CPI items that vary by the level of disaggregation. The Cleveland Cavaliers hosted me and my Cleveland Fed team last week at Rocket Arena, where we learned more about the team’s regional economic impact and the Cuyahoga Riverfront Master Plan project. The project is expected to cost about $3.5 billion and will develop 35 acres between Tower City and the Cuyahoga River. The Cavs expect this investment will spur new commercial, residential, and recreational opportunities to revitalize downtown Cleveland. Thank you again for the tour and I look forward to continuing to work together. And congratulations to the Cavs for securing the top seed in the NBA’s Eastern Conference for the upcoming playoffs! Go Cavs!

April is Global Volunteer Month, a time to honor, celebrate and encourage volunteerism. At the Cleveland Fed, getting involved and making a difference in our communities is a longstanding part of our history–and our plans for the future. This is why our Fed it Forward program allows employees to volunteer and engage with our communities across the Fourth District. 📷: Cleveland Fed employees at various service sites
