A big thank you to the Iowa and Nebraska Chapters of the FBINAA for putting together a fantastic joint Spring Retrainer! 🙌 Our Executive Director Jeff McCormick, Association President Craig Petersen, and Director of Member Services Jennifer Watson, CAE were able to attend and had a great time connecting with members. We always appreciate the opportunity to support our chapters, engage with members, and be part of these events. Thanks again for all that you do! #FBINAA #SpringRetrainer #Leadership #LawEnforcement #Chapter

What a fantastic FBINAA, SF Bay Area quarterly luncheon and networking meeting this week! We were honored to welcome Dan Ashley, our own Bay Area, ABC 7 News Anchor, as our guest speaker. Dan brought a wealth of insight and perspective to our discussion on the critical role of relationships between law enforcement and the news media. This topic is close to my heart—my son, Lucas Kihmm, is on a similar path as a Multimedia Journalist at WKOW-ABC 27 in Madison, WI. His passion and dedication highlight the importance of strong communication and meaningful partnerships. Thank you Mike Dust, Public Safety Consultant for T-Mobile, for sharing your insights on the benefits of reliable communication tools for public safety. We look forward to T-Mobile's continued sponsorship of the FBINAA-California State Conferences. Lastly, it was a pleasure to reconnect with fellow FBI National Academy Associates, Inc. (FBINAA) associates! Gina Di Napoli Tricia Seyler Max S. Ruben Chavez Denise Turner Mike Sellers Kevin Jensen Michael Whittington, Ph.D., MBA, FBI NA Gary Giles Josh Ehlers

Great information here Michael Harrigan. Another major consideration for retiring Agents (or any law enforcement officer) should be Self Defense Liability Insurance. I am proud to be affiliated with the USCCA and obviously endorse this organization and the industry-leading coverage that membership provides…in fact, the USCCA recently partnered with the FBI National Academy Associates, Inc. (FBINAA) to offer an unbeatable discount for their members. But there are several other reputable providers out there and in any case I STRONGLY encourage everyone in this position to do their own research and choose the best coverage option for them. But GET COVERAGE. The minute you turn in the badge, you are truly on your own.
Last week, I delivered a program to active FBI Agents titled "Carrying Firearms in Retirement". The purpose was to prepare agents for the reality of firearms issues after they lose the statutory benefits of being a sworn special agent. When the Bureau reached out to me to explore this opportunity, I jumped at the chance. It was clear to me that the FBI Retirement Unit and Human Resources Division were continuing their deepening commitment to prepare their employees for the next chapter of their lives. This is the direct result of leadership showing compassion and commitment to those who have served for many years, with all the pressures and family disruptions inherent in the job. These are the subjects I addressed: 1) The Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA) - its benefits, limitations, and requirements in retirement. 2) Assault Weapon regulations and laws at the state level - how it may impact retirees with personally owned weapons that fall fit this category 3) Magazine restrictions at the state level - how to navigate 4) Safety of firearms in the home - safe storage options and state laws 5) Maintaining firearm skills in retirement 6) Obtaining a Concealed Carry License and the benefit as a companion to LEOSA 7) Traveling with a firearm - TSA regulations 8) Sale and purchase of firearms - blue label dealers It was a good group and I received many inquiries after the class. Are you doing enough to make sure your officers or agents are prepared for retirement? #leosa #fbi #fbiretired #firearms #leadership #firearmstraining #police
