Designated as a National Historic Landmark District in 2007, The House of the Seven Gables campus contains a collection of seven historic buildings set along Salem Harbor. Faced with deterioration, weakening of the seawall, and mold in the basement of the Nathaniel Hawthorne Birthplace, Existing Conditions, a GPRS company, was selected to support its historical preservation efforts. By leveraging the Leica RTC360 3D scanner, we documented exterior shells of five buildings and key site features from the Seaside Gardens. This comprehensive as-built documentation will help Union Studio identify structural issues, deterioration, and other restoration challenges, ensuring these historic sites stand for generations to come.
