Emergent Learning Community Project

I applaud the Trust-Based Philanthropy Project for asking all of us to stand in solidarity with our nonprofits and to do what's needed to help them continue to thrive.

We’ve been excited to see this group of Elevate Youth California grantees dig into #emergentlearning over the past six months. At their final in-person session, they experienced the power of EL Tables and further dug into their individual work in youth engagement. This fantastic cohort was made possible by the generosity of The California Endowment and the Center at Sierra Health Foundation.

"Learning and evaluation approaches that accompany systems change efforts need to fit with and support the emergent nature of this work, often through experimentation supported by robust learning." Kudos to Jenny Anderson and Rebecca Winthrop for their New York Times essay, "Something Surprising Happens When Kids Have to Set Their Own Goals." The message: even in grade school, when learners are invited to ask their own powerful question; to set their own goal, they grow their agency and engage better in what they are learning about than when they are just given an assignment. It can be just a minor tweak -- asking a powerful question can make a huge difference in creating the container for learning to happen. https://lnkd.in/eKaf8ieN
