In many cases, foster care is not forever. In fact, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, about three in five children in foster care return home to their parents or other family members. We understand that family is the most fundamental influence on children. Our guiding philosophy is that it is usually best for children to be able to stay with their own families and for families to learn how to handle their own challenges in a healthy, loving way. At Embrace AL Kids, we are proud to offer our Family Preservation Program, designed to strengthen and preserve families. While it is not a cure for the struggles of family life, it is a successful program that teaches, challenges and helps families learn the skills they need to stay together and help each other grow successfully. We are grateful for the Children's Trust Fund of Alabama and the support they provide to the children and families we serve across the state. We were honored to attend their check presentation earlier this week with fellow organizations and legislators in Alabama. This week we celebrated our new Higher Education Home on the University of North Alabama (UNA) campus in Florence with a “Gathering for Good” community event featuring food, live music and great company. We were thrilled to welcome 75+ attendees including community leaders, civic officials and our network of supporters to share remarks and commemorate this special occasion for the UNA and North Alabama community.
