Published a paper with every mistake imaginable? What could go wrong? Everything—and that's exactly the point. In our latest research led by Carlos Mejia, we deliberately introduced common errors in molten salt electrochemistry experiments and recorded the resulting electrical signals. Why? Because tacit knowledge is often missing in scientific literature, especially in molten salt electrochemistry. Executing these experiments involves many unspoken challenges: 🧤 Working inside a glovebox, ♨️ Handling hot furnaces and parts, ⚠️ Dealing with limited compatible materials, 😶🌫️ No visibility of the electrodes in molten salts—the biggest challenge of all. How do you ensure the electrodes are positioned correctly to avoid shorts and other errors? How do you verify everything is functioning properly? Our paper correlates electrical signals with common mistakes, making it easier for practitioners to troubleshoot and correct their electrochemical experiments in molten salts. Join us at the Molten Salt Electrochemistry Symposium in July (details in the comments). One of our most unexpected findings was observing small (microamp) currents when an electrode was removed from the molten salt and suspended about an inch above it. Despite the apparent disconnection, we still detected some current. Is it a thermionic effect? Are salt vapors conductive enough to facilitate current flow?
