Ruth Asawa was an American modernist artist, known for her ethereal wire-looped sculptures, as well as an astonishing body of works on paper that explored nature and our place in it. Asawa lived through Japanese internment, unjust education and hiring practices, and untold scores of prejudice as a Japanese-American growing up in California through the WWII years; yet, she pursued her unfettered creative talents through it all, and the beauty she brought to this world cannot be overstated. A massive retrospective of her work will be showing at the SFMOMA San Francisco Museum of Modern Art starting today, and we all hope to experience her artwork showcased as it always deserved to be. Are you a newly-graduated art therapist seeking support and supervision? We here at EBAT would love to guide you on your professional journey! We offer weekly supervision for new art therapists who are working on their hours for their ATR (Registered Art Therapist) credential and the LAT/LCAT license in Oregon. Supervision can be conducted in-person at the East Bay Art Therapy office or remotely through Zoom. We support supervisees with clinical case consultation and exploring topics such as: transference and countertransference with clients, developing healthy boundaries between professional and personal life, self-care strategies to manage compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma, and professional identity as an art therapist. We encourage the creation of personal response art that can be explored together in supervision. Supervisors are available to provide resources and feedback to support our supervisees' practices, including input in the analysis of client artwork and other session documentation or material. We facilitate a natural flow to our supervision sessions, guided by the supervisee, what they would like assistance with, and what they desire to get out of their supervision time.
