  • "This week I had the honor of speaking in-person at the School Nurses Association of North Carolina Conference in Asheville, NC and teaching them all about POTS. My session went really well and lead to lots of great conversations about how to support and accommodate students with POTS in the NC public school system. I never expected this to be the road that life would send me down but it felt like the perfect intersection of my personal health, experience as an educator, IEP and accommodations knowledge and current and past roles at Dysautonomia International all coming together in one perfect moment. This isn’t the journey I would have chosen but I am so thankful for it. I haven’t felt that way every step of the journey (and if you have dysautonomia and don’t feel thankful for it that is 100% valid - a lot of days I am not thankful for it) but I’m glad to be at that point right now." -Charlotte Florez, Director of Events at Dysautonomia International Charlotte and other Dysautonomia International staff and volunteers have been speaking at school nurse association conferences, national physician conferences, county medical societies, medical schools, and more to help educate as many medical professionals about autonomic disorders as possible. If you'd like to support our efforts, you can make a contribution to Dysautonomia International at www.CureDys.org.

  • Did you know that small fiber autonomic neuropathy in your limbs can correspond to dystomility in your GI tract? That’s because small fiber autonomic nerves aren’t just in your legs or your skin, where they are normally tested. They are found throughout the body and they innervate all of the organs and smooth muscle like the GI tract. Check out this article from autonomic and GI experts exploring this important topic: https://lnkd.in/eKvbmZNY

Download our School Accommodations Checklist and share it with school nurses, teachers, and guidance counselors in your local school districts to help raise awareness! School Accommodations flyer: https://lnkd.in/eCgigsdV Dysautonomia International has been presenting educational sessions for state and county school nurse associations to help students with POTS and other forms of dysautonomia have more support when they need help in the educational setting. If you have any contacts with regional or state school nurse associations that may be interested in hearing a lecture on pediatric autonomic disorders in the educational setting, we'd love to hear from you.
