On April 1, Harry Sideris succeeded Lynn Good as Duke Energy CEO following her retirement. Over his 29 years with the company, Sideris has learned every aspect of this complex business and played a key role in many pivotal moments. Duke Energy Foundation recently announced a $500,000 investment supporting 19 North Carolina community college programs that are creating a pipeline of skilled workers who will help meet the energy industry's growing workforce needs. The Foundation also awarded a $100,000 grant to The Forward Fund to help students in Southeastern North Carolina attain high-wage employment opportunities. “As our state and industry continue to grow, North Carolina’s community colleges are helping us meet the moment,” said Kendal Bowman, Duke Energy’s North Carolina president. “As technologies change and we modernize our energy fleet, we want talent here in the state to help us support our communities and build a smarter energy future for customers." Today, we celebrate more than 3,000 employees ensuring safe, reliable natural gas delivery to 1.7 million customers across five states. Happy Natural Gas Utility Workers’ Day!

Roughly 200,000 miles of Duke Energy above-ground power lines wind through a six-state footprint that includes the highlands of Kentucky, the mountains of western North Carolina, and the towering willow oaks of Charlotte. In each of these areas, trees and vegetation can pose hazards to power lines and thus, reliability. Because of the varied terrain Duke Energy covers, the company employs two vegetation teams and a variety of pruning tools and methods to clear trees and vegetation that may interfere with the lines. “The objective is to maintain the lines – before the trees and brush are close enough to cause outages – in a manner that is consistent with good arboricultural practices,” said Wesley Frick, manager of distribution vegetation at Duke Energy. We're focused on helping customers save throughout the entire year, not just during the winter and summer seasons when energy use can spike. Dedicated teams are out in the communities we serve, educating customers on money-saving programs available to them and offering tips and guidance for managing energy use. The Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Board of Directors has presented Duke Energy Chair and CEO Lynn Good with the Thomas A.
