"I feel I paid an absurdly small price given how much I was able to help others." "This seems to be not an uncommon experience. The worst part about donating a kidney is you can only do it once. I feel there is a lack of awareness about the possibility of donation, how great the benefits are and how surprisingly easy it is." Guy donated one of his kidneys to a stranger through the UK Living Kidney Sharing Scheme, and is now keen to raise awareness about the donation journey. “I’m a great believer that when you light a lamp for somebody, it will also brighten your path.” Harsha donated a kidney to her husband in 2016, and believes that her gift improved both of their lives dramatically. "He was able to be there for his five granddaughters and spend quality time with them in a way he otherwise wouldn’t have been able to." "We are taught that sharing is caring. I had a spare kidney, and it is an honour I was able to share it with someone who needed it far more than I did. It had such a monumental effect on Kirit’s life." Shaun donated a kidney to his dad 10 years ago, aged 25. "It was a no brainer." "We knew that my dad was ill. He never went into the details, but we knew it was something to do with the kidneys. We used to play golf together, but as he got worse he didn’t have the energy for it and had to spend more time resting. At his worst, he couldn’t even walk to the shops." "The doctor told us that dad’s kidney function was dropping, and that he’d been added to the donor register. As soon as he said that, I immediately offered to donate my kidney. My dad made it clear he wasn’t asking, but that didn’t matter. The moment I knew it was an option, my mind was made up." Shaun's donation gave his dad a new lease of life, and believes it was worth it a million times over. Visit our website to read his inspiring story in full: https://lnkd.in/evPDYVYX
