  • 🚨 New Podcast Alert 🚨 Episode 075: Clean Air Cleaning the Air Since March 2020, the topic of cleaning the air has grown. Public interest around indoor air quality started with the environmental movement of the 1960s. Since then, concern over the air we breathe continues to grow. Let’s be direct about this. Depending on the facility you’re entering you might have several choices. Your Choices for Exposure Without stirring unnecessary worry, your choices about exposure when you enter your workplace, a store or your doctor’s office depend on that space. Are there automatic doors? Can you use your elbow to push things? Are the restroom facilities “touchless”? All of those options might provide you an opportunity to avoid physical contact. But there’s one thing every one of us will HAVE to do. Breathe. You can wear a mask and we’re not here to debate their efficacy. We ARE here to talk about a product that can positively affect the health and safety of homes and offices Cleaning Air and Safety This is an important point. In the same manner that cleaning solutions are applied to surfaces, cleaning the air has options. Many of those have inherent risks. Mercury bulbs, ozone and contaminated filters are all negative potential options. The product we’re discussing today bypasses all of those. AND it’s engineered right here in Rochester, NY. By taking a brand-new look at the science behind sunlight our guests have produced an amazing solution. Cleaning the Air with UV-C Using recent innovation on LED products, Michael Viggiani and Kasey Raab from Destiny UV-C speak about their products’ approach to health and safety. I bring this up to our commercial cleaning customers because it benefits you in several ways. These are products your clients can use to reduce pathogens in their spaces. Those you are cleaning. These are also products that you can refer and receive a commission. Ultimately, these products will make the spaces you’re cleaning healthier for everyone, including you. If you’re interested in learning more contact me here or our guests directly at their website. Mention you heard about them from The Doc! #docsfs #destiny #IAQ #podcast #UVC #savinglives ##safeguardinglives https://lnkd.in/g9b8pFgA

  • 🚨 New Podcast Alert 🚨 Episode 074: Budget Cuts Beating A Budget Cut Budgeting conversations with a current client are rarely welcome news. When an email, text or phone call starts with, “We need to go over the current cleaning costs”, get ready. The bean-counters are at work. It’s not uncommon to start with janitorial services. Part of that is based on the misconception that your work is not all that valuable. We’ll come back to that. My first piece of advice is simple but not easy… Don’t Panic Over A Budget Cut Whether the cut is certain or not, keep a level head. Remember, the client is reaching out to you. That probably means you and your commercial cleaning company are still in the race. You need to listen carefully to what your client is saying and NOT saying. If a point about the service or the budget is unclear to you, ask questions. If you’re not clear on what questions to ask, contact me here. What Prompted This Budget Cut? That’s a fair question. Your customer may have: • Suffered a loss • Be planning for an expansion and need to bridge • Have been approached by a low-ball cleaning competitor • Not understood why your costs are what they are • Not understood the value your services truly provide Budget Cut vs Daily Operations Almost every commercial cleaning service could be re-evaluated on an annual basis. I’m not suggesting that happen so you can reduce your billings. Setting smart, well informed pricing is important. I AM saying that as the cleaning company owner or manager, you should be prepared for budget cut conversations. This is a common step in your client relations. Approaching it with a sense of calm professionalism will serve you and your customer well. Breath, Plan and Act Regarding Budget Cuts At some point this is going to happen to you. If it hasn’t happened yet, you can expect it. If you and your commercial cleaning business are in it right now and need help, Contact me. I know how hard you work in the cleaning business. This type of news can be discouraging. But you can overcome this. This won’t be the only time it happens. One of the best decisions you can make is finding a coach who’s been there. #docsfs #businesssurvival #podcast #budgetcuts #savinglives #safeguardinglives https://lnkd.in/giK6jNuG

  • As an entrepreneur, a Director of Operations once shared a valuable insight with me: "It is not what you did last night, last week, last month, or even last year. It is what have you done for me lately." This statement has resonated with me deeply. While accolades, degrees, and certifications hold significance, the true measure of success lies in the daily deliverance of promised work. In the janitorial industry, where excuses are not an option, each day presents a new challenge to meet expectations without fail. This demanding field requires unwavering dedication, often leading to extended hours and sacrifices. We persevere not for personal gain but out of genuine care for our clients and team. With a servant's heart, we tackle each day with determination and commitment. #docsfs #Entrepreneurship #Dedication #ServiceMindset #savinglives #safeguardinglives

  • 🚨New Podcast Alert🚨 Episode 073: When Clients Steal Your Staff When we discuss the situation of clients stealing your staff, things get messy. There are at least four competing interests in these situations. And even when everyone is working with good intentions we almost always make someone angry. Let’s consider who’s involved when clients “Steal your staff”. They are: Your Team Member; Your Customer Contact, The Original Employer (Your Company); You, The Owner The level of trust does change when we discuss what role this staff member holds. This is not an issue of the person’s value. But rather an issue of trust. The higher up the ladder-of-responsibility your staff member is, the more private information they hold. For now, let’s consider the most likely person for your client to steal. A Front-Line Cleaner. Your front-line cleaner may be doing a fine job. If so, the client is pleased and wants to make them an offer for employment. You can’t blame the front-line cleaner for being tempted with more money or benefits if those are being offered. They often don’t understand the additional risk they’re accepting. Being employed for one role in a company leaves them open to being more easily fired. Without that last piece of information, the front-line cleaner MIGHT think you’re trying to control their future earnings. You know that’s not your focus. YOU are looking to protect your company and the rest of your team, by extension. Your commercial cleaning company has access to multiple jobs. So, if and when this client leaves, you probably have another client to plug your employee in to. That allows your front-line cleaner to remain consistently employed by the same company. When a client steals your staff, you’ve lost that account. After all, they hired a full-time cleaner who knows their facility. Your company is no longer needed. That means your investment in screening, hiring, training and outfitting that person is lost. The income from that account is also lost. All of that has a value to your commercial cleaning company. Bringing in staff, managing client issues and balancing payables and receivables is all part of your job. When a staff member gives notice, you’re reminded of what must happen next. It’s harder when they pull a “No Call – No Show”. Immediately the cost for doing business increases because another staff member or you will be assigned to cover that work. OR the profits simply decrease because an account is lost. This becomes very complicated, very quickly. I work with cleaning company owners to regain balance and sanity. I know the stresses because I’ve lived them. As a Cleaning Consultant and Coach to Company owners, I have the experience and the scars to get you to the next level of profits. #docsfs #businessissues #employmentissues #podcast #cleaning #savinglives #safeguardinglives https://lnkd.in/gCAkZ7bT

  • 🚨Podcast Alert🚨 Episode 072: Does My Website Really Matter? Does My Website Matter? Many of my consulting clients have asked, “Does my website matter? We’re just a cleaning company.” I often receive these questions when my cleaning clients are experiencing fatigue and frustration. Let’s consider how those conversations are started. Fatigue Their fatigue is saying to me, “I’m so #$%S!**#####! tired after the cleaning, chasing my staff, reviewing the taxes and paying bills. I don’t want to DO this website stuff! I don’t understand it. Joel, if you’ll just tell me I don’t HAVE TO, I’d love it! Because then, when something goes wrong, I can say it wasn’t my fault”. Their frustration is saying to me, “I don’t understand websites. I know cleaning. All that computer-stuff looks complicated! What if I get my website wrong? What am I supposed to learn about this web-stuff? I could be doing this for hours and days. I just don’t want to. How much is THAT going to cost me?” I understand. As a cleaning professional, I found the topic of website very intimidating at first. However, as a Sales and Business professional I also understood the need to increase my knowledge. If you’re a commercial cleaning company owner, this is critical! That gap in knowledge and understanding about the importance of your website may be where you are. Please keep reading and when you’re able, go to our podcast. Listen and then, leave a comment. I compare this to a relay-race. Your job as the cleaning company owner is to: • Understand your work and your tools • Provide good services to your clients. • Ensure your front-line cleaners have what they need • Ensure your front-line cleaners do what they’re supposed to do • Bring in new commercial cleaning clients • Collect payment & pay bills • Ensure no laws are broken • Answer questions • Return to the first leg of the race and start all over again Every stop in that short version of your role is part of the relay race. And without a good website, your competition in commercial cleaning starts every day ahead of you. Every day they’ve already completed the first hand-off of the baton before you've even started. Forgive me for asking a blunt and challenging question. Would you choose to be ignorant? By that I mean, if there was a janitorial solution to a common customer-problem, would you choose not to learn about it? And if you DID choose not to learn about that solution, what would you expect? How would you respond when you discover your competitor is already telling their customers how to fix it? Simply put, you don’t need to BE a website expert. You need to HAVE a website expert. Contact Us We’re developing website for clients. Our own team is responding to the need for sites that speak the “cleaners’ language” and are good for your customers and prospects, too. #docsfs #podcast #websitedevelopment #SEO #SEM #savinglives ##safeguardinglives https://lnkd.in/gMsqEr7f
