We weren’t meant to go it alone. Not in life. And certainly not at work. As someone who has changed schools 33 times as a child, I know what it feels like to be the new kid over and over again - constantly scanning the room for signs that I belong, that someone sees me, values me, and wants to connect. Decades later, I see that same look on the faces of employees in classrooms where I teach emotional intelligence, leadership, and team effectiveness. The look that says: “Does anyone here truly know me?” “Do I matter?” Here’s the truth: we spend around 2,080 hours a year interacting with others at work. That’s a massive opportunity for connection. And yet - 1 in 5 employees report feeling lonely at work. That loneliness costs businesses $154 billion annually from absenteeism and turnover, and up to $550 billion more from lost productivity, poor collaboration, and reduced innovation. But this isn’t just about dollars. It’s about human potential. It’s about what we miss out on when we forget that we’re wired for connection. 🧩 Teams with stronger relationships solve complex problems faster. 🤝 Employees with friendships at work are more committed, engaged, and satisfied. 📈 Connected workplaces see higher productivity and profitability. Connection isn’t a soft skill - it’s a business strategy. And more importantly, it’s the right thing to do. Let’s stop settling for pizza parties and casual Fridays as our answer to employee engagement. Let’s lead differently. Let’s lead with connection. #ConnectionRevolution #SeenValuedHeard #WomenInLeadership #TogetherWeRise #WatchUsRise #WorkplaceCulture #JoleneChurch #LeadershipMatters

Not another post in disguise! You know the ones. A relatable problem. A hook that draws you in. A moment of, Yes! I feel this too! And then - BAM! A sales pitch. Look, we all expect the inbox messages - the cold pitches from strangers who haven’t taken a moment to connect before asking for something. But what really gets me? Posts in disguise. Here’s the thing… People don’t come to LinkedIn for another sales funnel. They come to connect. To learn. To grow. They want to feel valued, seen, and heard. If we want engagement, if we want connection, if we want to build real relationships - we have to give people a reason to lean in. Not by selling. Not by strategizing the perfect piece of content. But by showing up as ourselves. 👉 Share your expertise. 👉 Be vulnerable. 👉 Give value without expectation. And the irony? The people who need your help will find you. Not because you cornered them with a pitch, but because they saw you. They trusted you. And when the time was right, they reached out. So let’s stop disguising posts. Let’s actually connect. Who’s with me? #ConnectionRevolution #AuthenticallyYou #SeenValuedHeard #LinkedInCommunity #BuildRealRelationships

🔊 Ever felt like you’re talking, but no one is listening? Maybe you’ve been interrupted in a meeting. Maybe someone repeats your idea, and suddenly it’s taken seriously. Maybe you’re just tired of not being heard. 🚨 Here’s how to change that: ✅ Use a strong opener. Try, “I have an important point to add.” ✅ Lower your pitch at the end of sentences. It signals confidence. ✅ Call it out (respectfully). “I wasn’t finished yet, I’d love to complete my thought.” 🎥 Watch this short reel to take control of the conversation and make sure your voice is heard. 👇 Have you ever experienced this? How did you handle it? Let’s talk! #Leadership #Communication #BeHeard #Confidence https://lnkd.in/et6BNX74

3 Things I Wish I’d Learned Sooner 1️⃣ Your Voice Has Power—Use It. When I was three, my babysitter took me to a formal women’s luncheon. She didn’t tell me in advance what to expect, and before I knew it, I was being handed a microphone and walking out onto a stage. I sang Jesus Loves Me under the blinding lights, seeing only the outlines of smiling faces. That moment stuck with me - not because I was a child on stage, but because I felt the power of connection. A voice - my voice - could make an impact. Too often, we silence ourselves. We hesitate, we wait for permission, we convince ourselves we have nothing worth saying. But we do. And the moment we start using our voice with intention, everything changes. 2️⃣ Ask the Questions While You Can. When my grandmother passed, I delivered her eulogy. In preparing for it, I uncovered stories about her life - her resilience, her struggles, her victories - that I had never known. And I wished I had asked more while she was here. How often do we miss the chance to really know someone? How often do we assume we have more time? One of the greatest gifts we can give is to be curious—to ask, to listen, to truly see the people around us while we still can. 3️⃣ You Don’t Have to Fit In to Belong. I was the new kid in school 33 times. Thirty-three times of walking into a room full of strangers, trying to find my place, trying to blend in enough to not stand out too much. It took me years to understand that blending in isn’t belonging. True belonging comes when we show up as ourselves, not some version of who we think we should be. Now, when I walk into rooms, whether for a keynote, a leadership training, or just life - I walk in fully as myself. And what I’ve learned? The right people see you when you show up authentically. So here’s what I hope you take away from this: Use your voice. Ask the questions. Stop trying to fit in - just belong. What’s something you wish you’d learned sooner? #ConnectionRevolution #SeenValuedHeard #AuthenticallyYou #Leadership #Belonging

In 2014, I released my first book. And it sucked. Okay, maybe not completely - the stories were meaningful, the theme was solid. But something was missing. Me. I hadn’t yet figured out my voice as a leader. I was still trying to blend in, still learning what it meant to be truly seen, valued, and heard. But that book, imperfect as it was, set something in motion. It pushed me forward. By book three, I had found my voice - and that book became a Wall Street Journal bestseller. By book seven, I had ventured into something completely new - a children’s book - never having written one before, never having worked with illustrators. I fired three before I found the one who got it, who could take the images in my head and bring them to life. And by book eight, I had the privilege of writing Leading the Charge for Change: Women Inspiring Leadership with my mentor - a book that would go on to inspire women around the world. That’s the power of stepping into who you are. Of refusing to stay silent. Of embracing the messy, imperfect, sometimes frustrating process of becoming. So if you’re holding yourself back, waiting for the right moment, waiting for perfection - stop waiting. The world needs your voice, your ideas, your story. We don’t create impact by staying in the shadows. We create it by showing up, speaking up, and taking up space. Because when you do, you don’t just change your own life - you create space for others to rise too. #ConnectionRevolution #SeenValuedHeard #Leadership #AuthenticallyYou #KeepGoing #ProgressOverPerfection

What if the strongest leaders weren’t the ones who tried to do it all, fix it all, and carry it all? What if real leadership wasn’t about wearing the cape - but knowing when to take it off? As I put the final touches on my signature keynote for 2025, I can’t help but feel excited. The message? Leadership isn’t about being the hero—it’s about empowering others to rise. This keynote is bold, colorful (literally - comic book vibes! 🎨💥), and designed to challenge the way we think about leadership, connection, and workplace culture. Curious about the trainings I offer? Scan the QR code in the image or check out my site for more! But first, let’s talk: What’s one leadership lesson that changed the way YOU lead? #Leadership #DitchTheSuperheroCape #ConnectionRevolution #AuthenticallyYou #BuildingMeaningfulWorkplaceCultures

How well do you know me? Let’s play a game! 🎉 When I was in Albuquerque training on Emotional Intelligence, I joked with my class that by the end of Day 2, they knew WAY too much about me personally. But here’s the thing, that wasn’t by accident. One of the biggest takeaways from emotional intelligence training is that connection doesn’t happen by chance, it happens by choice. We have to be intentional about getting to know people, listening, understanding, and building real relationships. So, let’s have some fun! Which of these do you think is true about me? 🏍️ I ride a Harley-Davidson. 🐱 I have a cat with dementia. 🚶♀️ I walk 6–8 miles every day. 🎒 I changed schools 33 times. 👶 I’m expecting my 11th grandchild. 🖋️ I have tattoos. 💍 I got married in a senior mobile home park in the ghetto. Drop your guesses below, and I’ll reveal the truth soon! Because getting to know people should be fun, engaging, and, most importantly - intentional. #ConnectionRevolution #SeenValuedBelong #EmotionalIntelligence #FunAtWork #GettingToKnowYou

Woof woof, friends! Finn here, your ever-optimistic Chief Bark Officer, back with another tail-wagging edition of Finn's Friday Fetch. This week, we're shaking off the winter blues and basking in the warmth of the sun. You see, even though my human, the CEO of DJC, was off in sunny Albuquerque, training leaders in the art of Emotional Intelligence, I got to enjoy some quality time with my dad and soak up some much-needed sunshine. As we got out and walked during the warm rays, I couldn't help but reflect on the past few months. The holiday season, with all its excitement and hustle and bustle, can be a bit overwhelming, even for a seasoned pup like myself. But now, with the winter blues fading and the sun shining brighter, I feel a renewed sense of energy and optimism. And that got me thinking: just like a dog needs a little sunshine to recharge its batteries, humans need moments of joy and rejuvenation to combat the winter blues. So, how can you shake off those lingering winter blues and embrace the brighter days ahead? Here are a few tips from your favorite furry friend: Embrace the sunshine! ☀️ Just like I enjoyed my time soaking up the sun, make an effort to spend more time outdoors. Take a walk in the park, have a picnic lunch, or simply sit in your backyard and enjoy the fresh air. Connect with nature. 🌲 Spend time in nature, whether it's hiking in the woods, gardening in your backyard, or simply observing the birds at your feeder. Connecting with nature has been shown to reduce stress, improve mood, and boost overall well-being. Shake things up! 💃 🕺 Try something new and exciting. Learn a new skill, take a dance class, or explore a new hobby. Stepping outside your comfort zone can help you rediscover your passion and reignite your sense of adventure. Focus on the positive 😃 Make a conscious effort to focus on the positive aspects of your life. Celebrate your accomplishments, big and small, and appreciate the good things in your life. Spread some sunshine 🫶 Just like I love to share my joy with my human family, find ways to spread sunshine to others. Volunteer your time to a worthy cause, offer a helping hand to a friend in need, or simply share a smile with a stranger. Remember, shaking off the winter blues is not just about surviving the cold weather; it's about nurturing your mind, body, and spirit. So, embrace the brighter days, embrace your inner sunshine, and let your spirit soar! Until next time, keep wagging those tails and chasing those dreams! Woofingly yours, Finn 🐾 #FinnsFridayFetch #PawsitivelyGreatHRAdvice #SmileItsFriday
