Happy 49th Anniversary, DEA! We’re proud to celebrate 49 years of innovation, collaboration, and service this April 1st. For nearly five decades, DEA’s talented professionals – including engineers, surveyors, planners, hydrographers, landscape architects, and natural resources scientists – have helped shape communities and protect the environments we call home. While our work speaks volumes, it's our people who make the lasting impact. Their expertise, passion, and dedication continue to define who we are and drive us forward. What sets DEA apart isn’t just the quality of our work—it’s the quality of our relationships and the commitments we make. The DEA Difference lies in how we show up for each other and for our clients: with clarity of expectations, effective communication, accountability, collaboration and teamwork, initiative and creativity, and trust. These six commitments guide how we listen, collaborate, and ultimately deliver excellent solutions and superior client experience. As we celebrate this milestone, we’re reminded that our legacy is built not only on the projects we complete, but also on the trust we earn and the partnerships we nurture. Thank you to every member of the DEA family—past and present—and to the clients and communities who have been part of our journey. Together, we are creating a different future. DEA’s March Community Champion: Liz Felix! Liz Felix, an Engineer in our Water & Environmental Business Unit, is inspiring the next generation through STEM education! At Escalante Elementary’s STEM Day, Liz led hands-on engineering activities for the Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS) event. She guided students through the House of Cards challenge, where teams built and tested structures—some supporting over 30 weights and a soda can! As a bilingual professional, she ensured all students could engage fully, helping a Spanish-speaking team construct the strongest structure of the day. Her dedication to mentorship, inclusion, and representation makes her a true leader in the community, and undoubtedly a DEA Community Champion. #DEAcommunitychampion #CommunityChampions #CommunityService #GiveBack

Happy National Surveyors Week! Precision is everything when it comes to maintaining and renovating the busiest locks in America! The DEA team provided survey support for Seattle’s historic Ballard Locks— the ongoing effort to replace machinery, prevent flooding, and maintain aging equipment while minimizing disruption. DEA partnered with Manson Construction and USACE to ensure the new gates were installed with utmost accuracy. Our team provided: High-precision control work, Laser scanning & as-builts, and Real-time measurements during installation.
